The Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) of the International Monetary Fund has an opening for a Senior Financial Sector Expert/Financial Sector Expert in its Climate Finance Policy Unit, an MCM Front Office unit in charge of climate finance policy issues in the IMF’s surveillance.

The position’s primary task will be to assist the department’s work on climate finance and support the implementation of the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST), a new tool to help low-income and vulnerable middle-income countries build resilience to external shocks and ensure sustainable growth by providing longer-term, affordable financing to address longer-term challenges, including climate.

A selected candidate will be: Contributing to developing the IMF’s policies on climate finance; Supporting the Unit in developing a suitable framework that can help facilitate a dialog with the private sector and multilateral development banks on the topic of de-risking tools and blended finance; Advising and supporting IMF country teams on climate finance policy and climate financing instrument issues that engage with country authorities in the context of Article IV Consultation or lending operations financed by the Resilience and Sustainability Trust; Contributing to the IMF’s analytical work on climate finance instruments, information architecture, innovative instruments, and other policy issues; Assist the department in monitoring developments in climate blended finance; and Contribute to capacity development missions as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Educational development, including and/or supplemented by work experience, typically acquired through the completion of considerable graduate work in economics and/or finance, is required.

In addition, the successful candidate(s) must have at least 4 years of professional experience working at the intersection of climate finance and macro-economic policy making.

This is a two-year contractual position, with a possibility to extend for another two-year period.
