Account Manager Foundations At War Child Holland


Background

The Programme Partnership and Grants (2PG) department contributes to War Child’s mission and ambitions set in the Global Strategy, by expanding War Child’s funding and partnership portfolio, providing expert knowledge and strengthening the capacity of the organisation in regard to programme partnerships, fundraising and donor relations, grant management and meeting or exceeding internal & external minimum standards. The 2PG team consists of a range of donor, quality assurance, compliance, partnerships, bid management and proposal development specialists. The 2PG department has 4 teams: Foundations Account Management (FAM); Institutional Account Management (IAM); Quality Assurance (QA) and Partnerships & Programme Development (PPD).

The main task of the Foundations Account Management team is to secure funding from trusts and foundations through maintaining and strengthening the relationship of War Child with these donors and related stakeholders, including networking organisations and other international agencies.

Your Challenge

As Account Manager Foundations you will build, maintain and strengthen War Child’s relationships with donors in the portfolio, you will engage with relevant networks, partners and stakeholders and provide vision and strategic advice on partnerships, donor strategies and funding opportunities. Furthermore, you will strengthen internal capacities for fundraising with foundations and grant-making organisations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Decision-making responsibilities: Responsible for developing and executing funding strategies and donor engagement plans within the donor portfolio to meet fundraising targets and grow the donor base, including prioritizing funding opportunities, and managing relationships with trusts and foundations, and relevant networks. The level of accountability for decisions is medium to high, as it directly impacts the ability of War Child to secure funding and carry out its programmes.
  • Relationship responsibilities: Build and maintain relationships with trusts and foundations, as well as collaborate with internal stakeholders such as program managers, finance and monitoring and evaluation teams. Effective communication, networking and relationship-building skills are essential. Significant experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiation and diplomacy will be crucial to establish and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Development responsibilities: Strengthen internal capacities for fundraising with foundations and grant-making organisations. This involves providing guidance, support and feedback on donor engagement, networking, proposal development and other relevant skills. Continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in donor engagement and grant management is important. Contribute to developing and maintaining a culture of learning and development within the team.
  • Resources responsibilities: Contribute to managing resources for proposal development which involves coordinating with country and regional teams, Directors of global programmes and other relevant departments in the Fundraising members’ offices to ensure adequate resources are available for timely proposal development and reporting activities.
  • Culture responsibilities: Contribute to facilitating teamwork and building a positive team culture. The role requires commitment to the safeguarding of children and adults, and compliance with War Childs Child Safeguarding policies.

Your Profile

  • Demonstrated donor account management expertise, especially with foundations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in funding strategy development and its operationalisation.
  • Proven experience in a similar position in an international organisation.
  • Good knowledge of and experience in fundraising for NGOs from foundations.
  • Demonstrated experience of strengthening the capacity of others in working with foundations, using a range of formal and informal methods.
  • Good knowledge regarding current development and trends in the (international) aid sector.
  • Good knowledge of the foundations markets globally.
  • Knowledge and understanding of donor networks.
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in a way that leads to increased impact for the organization, and to spot and create opportunities with foundations effectively and facilitate increasing access to funding for the WCA’s work.
  • Ability to analyse the donor environment and identify trends, anticipate changes, be comfortable with lack of clarity and deal with a large number of elements interacting in diverse and unpredictable ways.
  • Ready to be held to account, and ability to hold others to account in a consistent and respectful manner (leadership skills).
  • Good relation building skills, diplomatic skills and strong in building and maintaining networks.
  • Excellent facilitation and organisational skills.
  • Academic working level with relevant academic background in development/ international cooperation and/or humanitarian aid.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English and preferably one of the following languages: French, Arabic and/or Spanish.

Location

Any country where War Child has its offices. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in that country. Preference will be given to local candidates.

Contract

War Child standardly offers an initial 1-year contract with the intention to switch to a permanent contract after that.

Depending on the duty station, a local contract with salary and secondary labour conditions based on the local salary scale and T&C will apply.
