The Security Emergency Support Assistant (SESA) position is a cost-shared resource established to support the safety and security of personnel, premises, assets and operations of AFPOs in the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) in Jordan.

The incumbent will be reporting directly to the Chief Security Adviser (CSA). His/her role will require them to be on call 24×7.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will support key functions and operations 24×7 of the United Nations in Jordan. The role of a SESA can be challenging as s/he may be required to respond and assist UNSMS Personnel in need of immediate assistance. They will have the responsibility to pass key information and instructions in a timely and calm manner to UNSMS personnel and others, as required. At times, the work will be fast-paced and intense, but highly rewarding as the Assistant will be part of a response and support team which contributes to the work of the United Nations in Jordan.

Operational:

  •  Available on-call for 24/7 for any kind of security and safety support to UNSMS personnel.
  •  Duly supported by the SOC Operator following a Safety/Security/wellbeing incident, Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, UN/NGO security staff, and other actors for immediate support to UN Personnel in safety/security incidents, often under duress of situations or time.,
  •  Assist in identifying the locations of UNSMS personnel in distress/urgent need of assistance while in remote outdoor locations.
  •  Support UNSMS personnel who require assistance at QAIA and other border areas.
  •  Provide feedback and update to SOC on the evolving situation to notify the respective UNSMS organization or NGO security focal points when their personnel is involved in a security or safety incident.
  •  Assist in coordinating, preparing, and conducting field missions by AFPOs in Jordan, including non-Jordan-based AFPOs and SUNO.

Administration and coordination

  •  Provide general administrative support services 24×7 to assist the Security Officers in fulfilling their duties vis-à-vis staff members and their dependents.
  •  Provide support during the Security Plan implementation under the CSA’s directions.
  •  Help and follow up on VIP lounge and weapon clearance issues during high-profile visits to the Kingdom.
  •  Assist in reviewing the logistics requirements and managing and maintaining security equipment, including coordinating with the SCC of Jordan on defective radio equipment.
  •  Perform as a backup of the radio operator duties in an emergency.
  •  Any other duties as assigned by or on behalf of CSA, UNDSS Jordan.

Any other activity required by the supervisor.

Completion of high school or

A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field.

  •  Minimum of one year of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in security administration support, operational communications, and direct interaction with a broad range of clients.

Required skills

  •  Good understanding of computer-based tools such as MS Office Suite and other computer-based, web, and smartphone applications.
