Ayuda en Acción is a non-partisan and non-denominational NGO that has been fighting against poverty and inequality since 1981. We currently work in 20 countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Spain, supporting more than 2 million people with an investment of around 35 million euros through the collaboration of more than 110,000 private and public partners and donors.

Our intervention strategy is conceived around long-term impact objectives through presence in the intervention territories for more than 10 years. We contribute to the construction of capacities that ensure the sustainability of these changes and we adopt a strategy based on the complementarity between different lines of action, providing comprehensive support. To achieve this, we pursue innovation to generate structural changes and promote alliances with civil society, companies, academia, etc., that promote the processes.

In Ecuador, Ayuda en Acción has been working since 1986, implementing development projects with emphasis on the promotion of sustainable value chains, social and environmental water management, children’s and women’s rights, humanitarian aid and human mobility.

It is planned that the position of Deputy Director of the national program of Ecuador will be developed temporarily (until December 2024) in order to carry out a correct transfer of information about the position. After that date, the position and functions will become Director of the national program of Ecuador.

Position objective:

Lead the development of the presence of Ayuda en Acción in Ecuador and direct, together with the management and regional team at headquarters, the development of the programs and the organization of the equipment and resources necessary to fulfill the objectives of the country’s strategy. as well as the identification, planning (strategic and operational), supervision and evaluation of the different Action Aid programs.

Main responsibilities:

Program Strategy:

  • Prepare and implement the intervention strategy, together with the Ecuador teams and the South American Reference at headquarters.
  • Supervise the execution of annual, multi-year plans and specific projects, in accordance with established institutional requirements, in coordination with project coordinators.
  • Identification of new territories and actors that align with the Strategic Plan for Ecuador in coherence and coordination with the Institutional Strategy for the South American region.
  • Advise, issuing recommendations, and coordinate and ensure the quality of monitoring of development projects in technical, financial and management aspects related to the fulfillment of purposes according to the lines of intervention and policies of AeA.
  • Coordinate with the regional and international focal points of Humanitarian Action, contributing to the design of effective emergency preparedness and response plans in the territories of action in accordance with the Country Strategic Plan.
  • Actively collaborate in the application of the institution’s gender and childhood policy and action plan.

Alliances and diversification of funds:

  • Represent the institution with government institutions, donors and international organizations and consolidate the alliances necessary to obtain the expected results in Ecuador.
  • Ensure compliance with the program’s resource obtaining plan, ensuring and participating in the proposal formulation processes and the establishment of alliances with potential donors in the country
  • Identify potential funders, both international and local, that maximize funding opportunities for AeA.
  • Coordinate with the regional team to obtain resources and formulate development projects.
  • Contribute, together with the Campaign Team, to the development of the strategy for social-based recruitment campaigns. Support and promote public-private alliance relationships, as well as for the dissemination and creation of the brand in the country.

Accountability and learning:

  • Periodically report – through the established channels and using the relevant tools – the technical status of progress in compliance with the processes to the headquarters.
  • Coordinate the preparation of institutional and technical information, reviewing the quality and coherence with their plans and budgets, as well as coordinating activities that allow knowledge management and accountability to our stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Management:

  • Accompany the creation and management of the work teams necessary for the implementation of the programs, ensuring compliance with the procedures, regulations and standards of the organization.
  • In coordination with other managers, ensure the adequate provision of resources, means, capabilities and relationships of any type for the effective and efficient fulfillment of the objectives within the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Ensure, in coordination with other managers, compliance with all the legal obligations of the institution in accordance with the requirements and regulations of the institution and the country, as well as all relevant public and private regulations.
  • Direct coordination of the Impact team for the execution of the main programs and strategic orientations.

Requirements

  • Higher education studies in social areas, sciences, or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate studies in planning and development of projects in Local and/or Economic Development and/or Development Cooperation.
  • Experience of at least 10 years in similar positions in international cooperation organizations.
  • Experience in the development of strategic plans at the country level, as well as their subsequent implementation and monitoring.
  • Extensive knowledge of funding opportunities and donors in the country and demonstrable experience in formulating and managing proposals for national and international donors.
  • Work experience in Ecuador and/or Latin American countries and knowledge of the regional context: legislation related to development actions, political, social, economic and environmental trends of the country and the region.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of working with NGOs and rural communities, the private sector or public institutions that enrich the links of the National Program and fundraising.
  • Experience in leading and implementing new initiatives and projects throughout their cycle and areas (technical and resource and budget management):
    • Formulation and planning
    • Implementation
    • Monitoring, evaluation and systematization of processes and experiences
  • Experience in people management and extensive command of participatory techniques, teamwork methodologies and coordination.
  • Desirable knowledge and experience in promoting gender and childhood equality

Languages:
