Focus on our activities in the DRC

Our mission in the DRC has existed since 2001. PUI is developing its integrated approach there with projects in primary health and the fight against malnutrition. PUI operates in Ituri with health and nutrition projects, and in North Kivu through an integrated emergency health and nutrition approach supplemented by food security activities.

And the Protection Coordinator in all this?

As a Protection Coordinator, you will be responsible for the development and application of the mission’s operational Protection strategy and the quality of current and future Protection programs in the definition phases. , implementation monitoring and evaluation. You will provide technical support to project teams and in particular to Protection project managers in a functional relationship. You will also ensure the representation of PUI to authorities, humanitarian actors and donors for the Protection sector. Finally, with all the Technical Coordinators and the SERA department, you will provide technical support to ensure that the principles of transversal protection are taken into account in all PUI interventions.

To this end, your responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Context analysis / Strategy / Development: You will participate in the development of the operational strategy in Protection and contribute to the development of new relevant interventions in Protection on the mission according to the needs identified in the country, respecting the framework intervention in PUI Protection. In coordination with the Protection team, you will monitor Protection activities in the country and analyze their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Program quality: You will provide functional technical support in your field of expertise to the program teams, in particular to the Protection program managers, and you will ensure the quality and effectiveness of the mission Protection program(s).
  • Representation / Coordination: You will ensure sectoral representation in Protection of PUI with partners, donors, national authorities and local stakeholders, and will represent PUI in meetings of the Protection Cluster or sectoral coordination group in Protection. You will also contribute to the smooth circulation of information in the Protection sector.
  • Human Resources / Training: You will offer technical support to project teams and in particular Protection teams, and will provide support to Project Managers for the recruitment of technical Protection personnel. You will also supervise the content of Protection training and the quality of Protection activities based on identified needs.
  • Logistics and administration: You will ensure that logistical and administrative procedures are respected by the Protection teams under your responsibility and will keep the logistics and administrative departments informed.
  • Security: You will contribute to compliance with security rules on the mission and transmit all information relating to security to your line manager and/or to the “Security” Manager of the mission.

The challenges that await you:

The challenges of the position are as follows: 1) Strengthen the positioning of PUI as a Protection player in the DRC 2) Gradually specialize the protection department on the themes and standards of General Protection and GBV, social support and case management 3) Strengthen the structure and technical capacities of the department at the coordination level and at the operational base level by mobilizing specialized resources 4) Strengthen the integrated approach to protection and develop integrated protection projects/activities with other sectors of PUI (HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, SECAL, WASH, etc.). 5) Promote safe and dignified programming by strengthening the incorporation of protection principles in projects implemented on the DRC mission. 6) Develop local partnerships

What you will need to succeed

  • Formation

You can demonstrate a Master’s degree in humanitarian project management, science, commerce, political or social sciences, law or any other associated field. Training in quality process management such as URD Training (dynamic compass) or SPHERE would be highly appreciated.

  • Experience

You have at least three years of experience in managing protection programs or in a similar position in an international context. Experience working in environments with security threats is required. You also have a strong understanding of global protection principles and standards and relevant bodies of international law, as well as strong experience in cross-sectional protection and protection monitoring. Work experience in countries at war/conflict will be an added value, as well as experience in Psychosocial Support, Gender-based Violence, advocacy and/or human rights.   • SKILLS

You have excellent writing and speaking skills and master team management. You have a good knowledge of program management and quality monitoring as well as main donors (UN agencies, ECHO, EuropAid, BHA, AAP, etc.). You have a proven ability to deliver safeguarding training, a good ability to provide public representation as well as a strong ability to work diplomatically within an integrated multicultural project team. You also have strong communication skills and an ability to build trust and navigate confidently at different levels, both internally and externally. The ability to work in hazardous areas as well as knowledge of statistical, GIS and/or database software would be highly appreciated.

You are autonomous, flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the team and the organization, and show a strong commitment to humanitarian principles. You have problem-solving and leadership skills, and demonstrate a proactive approach to making suggestions and identifying solutions. You have a good ability to integrate into the local environment, taking into account its political, economic and historical characteristics as well as a professional attitude and an ability to establish successful working relationships with contacts outside the projects. You have some ability to provide/structure clear and concise instructions both orally and in writing, as well as a high degree of responsibility, initiative, and demonstrate alertness and emotional stability. You have a high sense of discretion and integrity when it comes to handling sensitive safeguarding information. You also demonstrate an integrated approach and attitude as part of normal work activities and a thorough understanding of community protection issues in the countries of intervention. Finally, you have a strong commitment to supporting/developing the capacity of national staff and developing a second level of leadership.
