Overview of position

  • Under the supervision of the Operations Unit Supervisor, the IT selected candidate will be responsible for installation, layout & maintenance of all FTS infrastructure & cabling.

Role objectives

  • Install & repair cabling infrastructure to the mission area including HQ, team sites & remote areas as needed by the mission.
  • Works with FTS engineering group (network, server, telephony, microwave, rigging & satellite unit) on implementation, expansion & rectification of all ICT cabling & infrastructure.
  • Primary focal point to all cabling concerns including but not limited to UTP / network cable, communication & data equipment layout & fiber optic connectivity.
  • Regularly visits team sites & remote areas inclusive of mission area to maintain & install cabling as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues with network, microwave & other engineering units, with regards to the physical layer.
  • Assist service desk & other units on cabling concerns within office premises.
  • Ensuring the installation of all UTP & STP cables meet the TIA 568B (TIA / EIA TSB – 67 standards) or other applicable international standards.
  • Providing knowledge & support in the implementation of grounding enhancements & / or solutions to ICT critical devices & infrastructures.
  • Oversee & supervises ICs & other units involved with infrastructure works.
  • Advises & evaluate procured & to be procured infrastructure equipment & materials as necessary.

Project reporting

  • This role works under the supervision of the Operations Unit Supervisor.

Key competencies

  • Working knowledge on ICT & office equipment including but not limited to facsimile, copying machines, printers etc.
  • Ability to assess, report & evaluate infrastructure projects.
  • Has a valid driver’s license & can drive 4 x 4 vehicles used to carry & transport ICT materials.
  • Firm knowledge on cabling including knowledge fiber optic technology.
  • Excellent client orientation skills with attention to technical details.
  • Strong communication & organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented planning & high degree of accuracy & safety.
  • Works collaboratively with & supports colleagues / clients to achieve common goals.

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
