General job description

The Advocacy Officer will:

Enhance collaboration between agencies, streamline forum operations, and bolster its overall credibility.

Offer Support to AAH Country Director and to the Junior Policy Advisor.

Key activities

Objective 1: Executive Support to the Chair of the DINGO Forum (AAH Country Director) for the year 2024

  • Manage administrative functions such as maintaining a filing system, overseeing information sharing, updating the mailing list.
  • Ensure systematic transmission of information.
  • Organize and facilitate internal Forum meetings, including monthly plenary and Steering Committee meetings, as well as ad hoc meetings.
  • Oversee the organization of internal thematic meetings and the production of Minutes.
  • Support the setup or enhancement of communication and coordination mechanisms with the United Nations, the Government, donor representatives and other stakeholders, including national NGOs.
  • Provide support for effective information sharing between elected DINGO representatives in various working groups and platforms, ensuring seamless communication with the DINGO Chair, Steering Committee, and the broader DINGO Forum when applicable.
  • Support the DINGO Chair and Steering Committee in their interactions with donors and external fora (including meeting invitations, agenda….)

Objective 2: Support Advocacy Coordinator with policy work on key issues of Operations

  • Establish systematized Reporting and monitoring tool for in all AAH Syria bases.
  • Ensure adequate categorization of AAH challenges and constraints, follow-up with field coordinators and relevant colleagues.
  • Participate, when required, in external meetings.
  • Provide support to AAH Advocacy initiatives and products (position papers and studies, etc.)

Candidate description

  • Master’s degree in international relations, Development Studies or any relevant field – or bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical specific knowledge: Strong geopolitical analysis ,Analysis of raw data
  • Specific knowledge of advocacy approach, design, and implementation techniques
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong organisation and multi-tasking capacity,Humanitarian coordination mechanisms / Cluster systems.
  • Minimum 2 years in similar responsibility,
  • English (compulsory working language, fluent spoken, read and written) Arabic: is an added value
  • Microsoft Office (especially Excel), design tools (Canva, or Adobe Suite)

Remuneration package

We offer immediate incorporation to a dynamic international network with the following remuneration package:

Formal work contract: 12 months

  • Base: Damascus
  • Salary: according to Action Against Hunger salary scale and according to candidate’s previous experience
  • This package includes:
    • Expatriate insurance (health, live, repatriation, travel, etc.)
    • Break flights/trips to defined area: (break per diem: 215 EUR)
    • Yearly holiday return flight ticket
    • Accommodation and housing expenses (in shared guest house)
    • Travel costs to and from the mission.
    • 25 working days of paid leave per year.
    • Extra per month and per child (Under 18 years old): from 100€ to 225€ monthly (according to standard list of Action Against Hunger -Spain).
