Under the direct supervision of the Senior Media and Communication Assistant and the general supervision of the Head of Mission, The Communications Assistant will support the preparation of communication products and implementation of the IOM El Salvador communication strategy and plans.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of communication campaigns for migrants, as well as relevant partners and partners, which contains printed, audiovisual and content production materials.
  • Participate in the development of the mission’s communication strategy that includes the work plan and actions so that relevant audiences know about IOM and its projects
  • Disseminate periodic information on IOM that contains data, profile of beneficiaries, among others
  • Prepare statistical reports, in coordination with the operations teams, that contain graphs and may be for public consumption, including donors, government counterparts and social networks.
  • Assist in coordinating with journalists and radio, press and television editors to position relevant IOM messages.
  • Collect information and assist in the preparation of national reports and / or newsletters on IOM to disseminate with the media, relevant partners and partners.
  • In close collaboration with the Senior Communications Assistant, maintain a constant flow of information on IOM activities and other relevant information.
  • Conduct field visits to collect stories of migrants that reflect IOM’s actions in the country.
  • Coordinate the visibility of projects in El Salvador, in coordination with program teams.
  • Provide logistical support, internal press releases, and photo capture at events and other relevant activities.
  • Keep information on IOM activities on websites and social networks updated.
  • Maintain an updated directory of relevant government, civil society and donor counterparts so that the communication products developed can be disseminated.
  • Keep a photographic and audiovisual archive of IOM activities in El Salvador updated.
  • Any other activity required according to your experience and skills.

Experience and Required Qualifications

Education

  • University Studies in Graphic Design and / or Communications or a combination of an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience.
  • High School Certificate with five years of relevant professional experience
  • At least 3 years of experience as a graphic designer and / or public information.
  • Photography experience.
  • Experience in media relations.
  • Experience in social network management.
  • Experience in organization and event management.
  • Experience in communications or public relations for large organizations.
  • Knowledge of the migratory context in North Central America is an advantage.
  • Experience in communications for human rights, gender focus and indigenous groups is an advantage.
  • Experience in local development projects is an advantage.
  • Work experience with international cooperation and international humanitarian organizations will be an advantage.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience carried out graphic design and / or institutional communication work.
  • Experience in photography, web design and audiovisual production.
  • Experience in content healing and social media management.
  • Experience in graphic design, communications or public relations for international organizations, cooperation agencies and / or international humanitarian agencies.
  • Experience in communications for human rights, migration, gender focus and / or population in vulnerable situations is an advantage.
  • Experience in local development projects is an advantage.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the migratory context in the countries of northern Central America.
  • Excellent writing skills and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools, color theory and their application in institutional communication products.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the wide range of thematic areas related to migration addressed by the Organization is an advantage.

Languages

  • Spanish (spoken and written fluid)
  • Intermediate English (spoken and written)
