Overview: International Business and Technical Consultants, Inc. (IBTCI), a US-based international development consulting company, is in search of a Survey Expert to bolster its monitoring and evaluation efforts. The Survey Expert will be tasked with designing, implementing, and analyzing surveys to gather crucial data for project decision-making. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in survey methodologies within humanitarian or development contexts, with a preference for familiarity with UNICEF programs. Fluency in English and French is preferred, alongside exceptional written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and analysis of surveys to collect relevant data for project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure survey instruments are appropriately designed to capture key indicators and insights aligned with project objectives.
  • Train survey enumerators and supervise data collection activities to maintain data quality and integrity.
  • Analyze survey data using appropriate statistical techniques to derive meaningful conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate survey findings to project teams, stakeholders, and donors.
  • Collaborate with project staff to integrate survey findings into programmatic decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated on best practices and innovations in survey methodologies to enhance data collection and analysis efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as statistics, social sciences, or international development.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in survey design, implementation, and analysis within humanitarian or development settings.
  • Fluency in English and French languages preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software and survey tools.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate survey activities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and multicultural environments.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to be mobile and agile at a moment’s notice in case of an emergency required.
  • Ability and willingness to work for extended periods in insecure and diverse environments.
  • Ability and willingness to safely enter and exit a larger, armored SUV vehicle that is several feet off the ground without assistance, while wearing body armor and/or a heavy flak jacket.
  • In case of an emergency situation, must be able and willing to “duck and seek cover”, which may require the individual to exit the vehicle, unaided, and hurriedly seek shelter elsewhere, as needed, in the event of a roadside emergency.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as statistics, social sciences, or international development

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of humanitarian and development principles, practices, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF program areas and initiatives, particularly in relevant sectors.
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) software and spatial analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of qualitative research methods and data collection techniques.
  • Previous experience working in diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts, particularly in low-resource settings.
  • Certification or training in survey methodologies or related fields is an asset.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: International travel may be required and may include travel to fragile and/or conflict-prone zones.
