The Bureau is headed by Abdallah Al Dardari United Nations Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director. UNDP is the UN’s global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP’s activities in the Arab States region build on UNDP’s five thematic priorities, with additional emphasis placed on addressing the main impediments to human development in the region as identified by the Arab Human Development Report series, namely freedom and good governance, knowledge, and women’s empowerment. Through its activities, the Bureau therefore seeks to promote and advance: Sustainable development Democratic governance and peacebuilding Climate Change and disaster resilience Women’s empowerment Knowledge societies HIV and development Energy and environment Youth

Context

UNDP RBAS has undertaken research on Social Cohesion in the context of Human Mobility in the Arab States, understood as encompassing migration and forced displacement in the Arab States region, to inform and provide entry points and recommendations for programming at the regional level as well as country office support. The outcomes of the analysis build on the overview provided by previous analyses, mappings and studies of RBAS’s projects and initiatives already implemented or currently ongoing, as well as potential pathways for upcoming engagement in this area based also on initiatives undertaken by UNDP in other regions and Human Mobility related projects and programmes implemented by other UN agencies and/or partners. The aim of the research paper is to provide a confirmation, or a re-confirmation, of UNDP’s extensive experience in addressing human mobility from a social cohesion angle, as well as its linkages and impact on development, including displacement, particularly internal. The Research Paper is now being finalized but requires copy editing (e.g., proofreading, alignment of the paper with UNDP Corporate Guidelines on Language). With input and guidance from the Governance and Peacebuilding Team at the UNDP Regional Hub, the volunteer will be asked to overview and edit the final version of the document and ensure it is cogent, accessible, and user-friendly.
