Position Summary:

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is seeking a Site Finance Officer (Accountant) to provide support and support to the accounting and financial operations of Kahuzi Biega National Park (PNKB) in view of the growth of the portfolio and compliance requirements.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the daily accounts of the Office by preparing regular journals (Journal Voucher) and monthly and annual closing journals (Payment, Deposit, Advance, Accrual, and other regularizations).
  • Check the completeness and quality of the accounting documents (Exit and cash/bank entry voucher, Regularization voucher) before their approval by the Head of Finance;
  • Carry out daily checks of Petty Cash and prepare the required reports (provisioning and closing);
  • Prepare monthly Bank Reconciliations and follow up with the bank for any regularization;
  • Carry out verifications of payment requests by check, by RAWBANK online and by Mobile Money (e.g. MPSA);
  • Work with different departments and projects/Grants to prepare the office’s quarterly cash request;
  • Prepare and submit period closing reports (bank reconciliation, cash and Mobile Money);
  • Carry out monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including liquidation of accounts for advances to staff, advances for activities, advances to partners, and debts to suppliers, etc.
  • Carry out the monthly review of accounts relating to ONEM, INPP, IRL, IPR, CNSS and prepare tax declarations and payments before the required deadline;
  • Prepare the monthly report of amounts paid to third parties to submit to the DGI within the required time frame.
  • Ensure correct accounting allocations and budget allocations of all office operational expenses (GL Account, Grant, Activity Code, etc.), more specifically salary expenses with regard to the Timesheet;
  • Harmoniously classify and archive all payment documents and other financial documents for audits and reporting to donors.
  • Contribute to the preparation of audits and implementation of recommendations.

Qualifications and experience:

Minimum qualification required : At least a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Commercial Sciences, Accounting, Administration or Finance.

Experience: A minimum of four (5) years of experience in accounting, auditing etc.

Technical skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, a working knowledge of financial systems and internal controls;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Good knowledge of ASAP software, Ms-Excel, Ms-Word, Ms-PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience with international organizations;
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to work in a diverse and multicultural environment;
  • Ability to speak and write French. Knowledge of English is an asset;
  • He/She must be able to work in harmony with all colleagues and partners;
  • He/She must be organized and disciplined with a desire to produce quality results.
