Senior Humanitarian Advisor (Latin America) At Development Aid

DRS is looking, on behalf of our client, and Global Humanitarian Organization, for a skilled Senior Humanitarian Advisor to support the organizations’ operations and programme goals in this area.

As the Senior Humanitarian Advisor for Latin America, you will play a key role in providing strategic guidance and expertise to advance the Organization’s humanitarian efforts in the region. Working closely with the Country Directors and Program Directors, you will contribute to the development and implementation of effective humanitarian response strategies. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of humanitarian principles, extensive field experience, and the ability to navigate complex emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:
   • Provide strategic guidance and leadership in shaping and implementing humanitarian response strategies in alignment with the Organization’s mission and objectives.
   • Collaborate with the Country Director and other relevant stakeholders to develop and adapt response plans based on the evolving needs in the Latin American context.
2. Technical Expertise:
   • Serve as the primary point of contact for all humanitarian matters, offering technical expertise in the areas of emergency response, disaster risk reduction, and resilience building.
   • Stay abreast of best practices, trends, and innovations in the humanitarian field and integrate them into program design and implementation.
3. Partnership and Coordination:
   • Foster collaborative relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other relevant partners to enhance the impact and effectiveness of humanitarian interventions.
   • Lead coordination efforts to ensure a coherent and harmonized response in collaboration with the broader humanitarian community.
4. Capacity Building:
   • Develop and implement capacity-building plans for local staff, partners, and relevant stakeholders to enhance their ability to respond effectively to humanitarian crises.
   • Provide mentorship and technical support to build a skilled and resilient humanitarian workforce.
5. Advocacy and Representation:
   • Advocate for the Organization’s humanitarian priorities at national, regional, and international levels.
   • Represent the Organization in relevant forums, conferences, and coordination mechanisms to strengthen its position and influence in the humanitarian community.
6. Reporting and Documentation:
   • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of reports on humanitarian activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
   • Document lessons learned and best practices to contribute to organizational learning and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Competencies:

1. Education:
   • Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Humanitarian Assistance, International Development, or a related discipline.
2. Experience:
   • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in humanitarian response, with a focus on program management, coordination, and strategic planning.
   • Significant experience working in Latin America, preferably in diverse and challenging contexts.
3. Skills:
   • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make sound decisions under pressure.
   • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.
4. Languages:
   • Proficiency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
5. Adaptability:
   • Willingness to travel extensively and work in challenging and dynamic environments.
6. Commitment:
   • Dedication to the principles and mission of the Organization, with a focus on ensuring the well-being and rights of children in humanitarian settings.
