Mission and objectives

As the United Nations lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience.

Context

The Inclusive Growth Team of the Istanbul Regional Hub provides support to countries in Europe and Central Asia region in shaping sustainable and inclusive development paths. The Inclusive Growth Team has collected a significant number of datasets over the years, encompassing various aspects of employment, unemployment, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), inclusion and exclusion, etc. These datasets exhibit variations in terms of geographical coverage, depth of disaggregation, frequency, and data sources. While most of the data were obtained from secondary sources, some datasets were collected through primary data collection. To enhance the effectiveness of our data management and utilization, we are seeking to conduct a review of datasets to streamline collection and presentation of data. The purpose of this review is to streamline the datasets, assess their status, identify potential updates or automation opportunities, and recommend additional data sources for future inclusion. Participation in this review will help online volunteer to obtain good command of state-of-the-art development data, visualization and analysis techniques and use of data for policy making, monitoring and evaluation.

Task description

The online volunteers will conduct review the datasets, assess their status, identify potential updates or automation opportunities, and recommend additional data sources for future inclusion. More specifically this includes: 1. Dataset Revision and Categorization. The Inclusive Growth will share available datasets (moistly in Excel format and publications). The online volunteer will undertake an examination of the available datasets and categorize them based on relevant themes. 2. Assessment of Indicators, Data Sources, Disaggregations, and Frequency. The online volunteer will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the collected indicators used in the datasets—data sources, disaggregations, and frequency—as well as possibility to update / obtain these data automatically through APOI, downloading or scrapping. 3. Identification of Additional Data Sources. In discussion with The Inclusive Growth the online volunteer will explore and recommend potential additional data sources to enhance the inclusiveness and comprehensiveness of the datasets. This review will focus on identification of data that would provide valuable insights and support evidence-based decision-making processes. Participation in this review will help online volunteer to obtain good command of state-of-the-art development data, visualization and analysis techniques and use of data for policy making, monitoring and evaluation.
