Context

The UN volunteer assignment will be part of Population Dynamics program and of the Country Office team. Recognizing the rapidly ageing and there is critical need to develop demographic insights for policy planning and development, the issue of ageing was included into the UNFPA Malaysia 2022-2025 program outputs. UNFPA works to promote community collaboration as a sustainable measure to address the growing ageing issues in Malaysia. In addition, The UN volunteer will also engage with different forums within the UN agencies, the Government, and other stakeholders.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Programme Analyst, and with technical input from the UNFPA Regional Office in Bangkok, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Participate and support the Population Dynamics program of UNFPA Malaysia Country Office. These include: a. Assisting coordination meetings: preparing agenda, invitations and taking minutes b. Assisting in preparing program/project reports c. Contributing to concept note and proposal development d. Participating in and assisting the Country Office team in continuous M&E activities of related work plans. This includes monitoring quarterly results and annual reporting.

2. Participate and support effective communication with and between colleagues in the UNFPA office and partners.

3. Contribute to the analysis and collection of population dynamics data to develop fact sheets and briefing notes.

4. Carry out any other duties as may be required by the UNFPA management team. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;

• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. 15. Results/Expected Outputs

• It is expected that this assignment would contribute to strengthening UNFPA’s roles and leadership in Population Dynamics in order to contribute to achieving the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022 – 2025, the Three Transformative Results, the National Commitments to Nairobi Summit, and the Country Programme.

• The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or governmental and non-governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);

• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment

• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Required experience

1 years of experience in health, social sciences, development studies or other relevant field. • Experience preferably in programs’ management in public or private sector at the national or international levels, experience in coordination • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in program support for population dynamics. Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

Bachelor degree or equivalent in health, social sciences, development studies or other relevant field.

• Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in austere, remote and potentially hazardous environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship and little comfort, and including possible extensive travel within the area of operations; willingness to transfer to other duty stations within area of operations as may be necessary;

• Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance; and commitment towards the UN core values.

As volunteering with UNV requires full-time commitment, volunteers are entitled to certain benefits for this role as below:

🔘 Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): MYR 3348.66
