BACKGROUND
ALIMA context in the DRC
ALIMA has been involved in the Democratic Republic of Congo since August 2011 in two areas relating to its expertise: nutrition and the fight against epidemic diseases ( cholera, measles and malaria ). For all of its programs, ALIMA works in close collaboration with the Congolese health and administrative authorities.
ALIMA has been implementing since November 2019 a project to take charge of primary health care for the benefit of the population of the territory of Beni, in the North Kivu province of the DRC.
As part of this project, primary health care support complements health care to the response to Ebola MVE virus disease led by several partners in health facilities in the area Beni’s health.
ALIMA also ensures the handling of suspicious cases with MVE in ITCs, as well as the referral of patients to appropriate treatment centers
Given the persistence of the epidemic, a multicenter, multi-epidemy study, randomized and controlled treatment of the safety and efficacy of experimental treatments in patients with Ebola virus disease is carried out in TTEs supported by ALIMA and other partners.
In terms of security, the territories of Beni and Oicha ( or ALIMA interventions take place ) remains fairly volatile. Attacks by ADF and other vigilante groups are fairly recurrent. Anti Monusco demonstrations or even systematic linking scenarios for suspicious people are quite common in the area.
