COOPI is looking for an RDC Area Manager at the Milan office

Present in the DRC since 1977 , COOPI has significantly increased the number of its operations in the country in response to the conflicts of the last 20 years. Starting from Kivu, where the first intervention took place, COOPI’s activities have extended to most of the crisis areas, to implement emergency programs for the benefit of displaced populations and victims of war, with particular attention to nutrition, to food security and child protection . In the provinces emerging from the crisis, COOPI is committed to implementing multi-year projects to ensure the transition from emergency to development and guarantee harmonious and sustainable development . COOPI provides a relevant response to the needs of local populations through a coordination structure in Kinshasa and various operational bases in the provinces. Every year, COOPI carries out a dozen projects financed by the European Union, the Humanitarian Fund, the ICC and UN agencies.

Role description

As part of its International Activities, COOPI is looking for an Area Manager to manage the Democratic Republic of Congo country . The position, based in Italy with frequent missions of medium and long duration, reports to the Management.

Role responsibilities

  • Define the strategies relating to the presence of the Foundation in the country in agreement with the Management ;
  • Monitor ongoing activities , ensuring their good execution with respect to the defined contents, also in their economic and financial terms;
  • Maintain and develop relationships with institutional Donors, in agreement with the Head of Mission and according to the directions of the Management, through their competent officials at local or central territorial level;
  • Support the head of mission in relations with local authorities and counterparts in order to ensure the best management of ongoing activities;
  • Ensure the application and compliance with the procedures of the Foundation, institutional donors and the country;
  • Formulate and update, in agreement with the Head of Mission, the local regulations for implementing the Foundation’s Procedures and verify their application;
  • Collaborate in the selection , contractualization and training of expatriate personnel to be included in the country;
  • Promote the collection and dissemination of information on activities relating to the country of competence, ensuring the passage of this information to the institutionally responsible Foundation offices.

Profile wanted

Essential

  • University education
  • Overall work experience of at least 7 years, of which at least 5 in the field of international cooperation
  • Significant work experience abroad of at least 3 years with direct responsibility for projects and management of expatriate staff
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of these languages: French (priority), English
  • Skills in the administrative management of projects (planning, supervision of the available budget, control)
  • Strong aptitude for interacting and collaborating in terms of planning and coordination with different interlocutors
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving
  • Availability to carry out frequent monitoring and control missions in the field

Desirable

The following will constitute preferential qualifications for selection purposes:

  • Previous and significant experience in a similar role
  • A previous and significant experience with COOPI
