The Swedish Movement for Reconciliation seeks coordinator of international accompaniment in Colombia

The Swedish Movement for Reconciliation (SweFOR), created in 1919, is a Swedish non-violence movement, ecumenical in nature, working for peace and justice. SweFOR’s work seeks to promote a culture of peace and non-violence in the world, promoting the peaceful management of conflicts and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.

In the Peace Service program we work in favor of the protection, legitimacy and space for action for human rights defenders in Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico (Chiapas). Our main methods are preventive presence through physical accompaniment, advocacy work and political accompaniment, strategic communication and the strengthening of non-violent, differentiated and collective self-protection capacities. Due to the nature of our mandate, it is important that the people we employ do not have citizenship of the project country. The objective of international accompaniment is to provide protection to accompanied human rights defenders, deter threats and attacks against them, expand their space for action, and make their work visible and legitimize.

We have been working in Colombia since 2004 and currently have offices in Bogotá, Quibdó (Chocó) and Villavicencio (Meta).

We are looking for a person for the office in Bogotá who can coordinate the international accompaniment project of SweFOR Colombia, focused on the area of ​​physical accompaniment. The person will be part of the organization’s coordination team and will work closely with the heads of the Villavicencio and Quibdó offices.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Be part of the organization’s coordination team and be a substitute for the country representative.
  • Support the strategic development of SweFOR, to enhance the impact of the international accompaniment method
  • Operational responsibility for the work of peace observers in Bogotá in a transition phase.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the planning, execution and presentation of reports of physical support in the project
  • Close coordination with the heads of the offices in Chocó and Meta to develop common strategies and achieve adequate monitoring of all physical accompaniment in the project
  • Responsible for the safety of staff during physical accompaniment.
  • Responsible for monitoring the accompaniment agreements and main contact person for the organizations accompanied from Bogotá.
  • Responsible for the execution, monitoring and accountability of the funds allocated for physical accompaniment work.
  • Close coordination with the person responsible for political support and strategic advocacy, as well as with other relevant colleagues, to maximize the effect of physical support.
  • Develop and periodically update manuals, templates and physical accompanying material for the entire project or as needed.
  • Responsible for the continuous training process of peace observers in Colombia.
  • Responsible for the selection process of peace observers
  • Answer the emergency phone in Colombia according to schedule.
  • Provide accompaniment in all the territories where we accompany

Qualifications

  • Solid leadership experience, developing teams in a multicultural environment and conflict management.
  • Experience in project coordination and strategic project development positions.
  • Excellent ability to work under pressure, handle emergency and security situations.
  • Experience in having worked with the international accompaniment methodology, preferably from Colombia.
  • Share SweFOR values ​​of peace, justice and a violence-free society.
  • Knowledge on human rights and/or peacebuilding.
  • Experience in PME methods, results-based project management (RBM).
  • Experience in financial management and project administration
  • Languages: High level of spoken and written Spanish. Medium level of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Swedish is commendable.
  • Ability to reflect on your privileges.
  • Good knowledge of the SweFOR project in Colombia is commendable.

Time and duration

The contract is full-time and has a duration of two years. It is desirable to start in June 2024 or according to agreement. The contract is subject to the financing of the project.
