We are looking for a temporary Institutional Funding and Compliance Lead who can assist our Institutional Funding and Grants Delivery Team the coming months. This can be on a short term employment contract or consultancy base.
Overview
The Institutional Funding and Compliance Lead is a critical role in ensuring the work of War Child Alliance (WCA) meets or exceeds established quality standards for grant acquisition and management, contributing to effective risk management across programmes and driving continuous success of the team, department and organization. The role requires a high level of initiative, innovation, leadership and problem-solving skills, and has both internal and external impact on the WCA’s operations and programming.
The role reports to the Global Head Institutional Funding and Grants Delivery, and coordinates and collaborates closely with other colleagues within Institutional Funding and Grants Delivery department, country and regional teams, Directors of global programmes and other relevant departments in the Fundraising members’ offices.
Your Challenge
- Advising and supporting the organization in meeting and exceeding its institutional funding target
- Drawing an annual plan for the team within the boundaries of the department’s defined policies and annual plan and using this to define concrete goals and targets for the team and oversee the efforts to achieve those goals and targets
- Leading the development and roll out of the quality assurance framework including support mechanisms in collaboration with other IFGD colleagues, country and regional teams, Directors of global programmes and other relevant departments in the Fundraising members’ offices
- Delivering professional insight to optimize donor funding, partnership development and cooperation, and increase the quality of WCA programming throughout the grant management cycle
- Ensuring quality, technical and compliance support and advice is delivered by the Quality Assurance team
- Monitoring the grants within the organisation on compliance issues and share across the WCA for learning and further development
- Ensuring robust risk assessments are in place for all projects by providing advice on key processes and requirements
- Coordinating the development of a learning path for the organisation and its local partners on grant management in collaboration with other IFGD colleagues, country and regional teams, Directors of global programmes and other relevant departments in the Fundraising members’ offices
- Enhancing awareness within the WCA on grant management, particularly in regard to donor compliance knowledge of the WCA’s main donors
- Maintaining and contributing to the internal and external networks related to grant management
- Exploring opportunities for collaboration internally and externally with sister organisations, INGOs and knowledge institutions
- Ensuring the team’s workforce possesses the appropriate manpower and qualities to realise the defined goals and targets
- Supervising staff by reviewing the quality and volume of their work performances, and provide guidance, instruction, coaching and motivation where necessary.
Your Profile
- Relevant academic or professional background in international law, management, development/international studies or related fields
- Demonstrated grant management expertise and expertise in developing quality support frameworks
- Demonstrated donor expertise (donor contracts and related regulations and procedures), at least the EU and one other large donor (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, USAID, UNHCR, UNICEF)
- Substantial experience in grant compliance or project management with institutional donors including the European Commission and at least one other large donor (USAID, DFID, SIDA, UNICEF)
- Field experience in humanitarian or development work
- Experience in team management
- Advances Excel user
- Good relation building skills, diplomatic skills and strong in building and maintaining networks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and preferably one of the following languages: Dutch, French, Arabic and/or Spanish.
Our Offer
- A consultancy agreement (terms to be defined at a later stage) – consultants must have the legal right to work

- The following offer is based on a Dutch employment contract, actually conditions depend on the local office
- Salary range from € 4180 – € 5197 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact step determined by the years of relevant working experience).
- An employment contact with War Child for 40 hours per week starting as soon as possible for a period of approximately 3-4 months, to be discussed during the interview stage
- 28 vacation days on full time basis (consisting of 26 vacation days plus 2 additional fixed free days, based on 40 hours work week).
- A pension scheme fully paid by War Child.
- Compensation for travel and work from home costs.
- Laptop to work from any location and monthly mobile phone contribution of € 25.
