Humanitarian Climate Action Training and Partnerships Specialist for Climate Adaptation Support Activity – US based Remote At Tetra Tech


The USAID-funded Climate Adaptation Support Activity (CASA), implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs – Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest for a Training and Partnerships Specialist to support CASA activities with the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA). The position can be fully remote from a continental US-based location or hybrid/remote within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Burlington, VT or Arlington, VA.

Position Description: CASA is seeking a Training and Partnerships Specialist to provide technical expertise as part of the core CASA team supporting the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)’s Bureau Environment Officer (BEO) and Climate Integration Lead (CIL) in the implementation of the tasks above. Under the guidance of the Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Advisor, the Specialist will lead the following bodies of work:

  • Advance the capacity of BHA staff and implementing partners to understand and address climate risks, advance climate equity and justice, and mainstream and scale equitable adaptation action. This may include designing, developing, coordinating, and delivering virtual and (potentially) in-person trainings; developing training plans and learning objectives; planning and drafting communications plans and written materials (blog posts, fact sheets, etc.); developing learning tools or guidance documents; etc.
  • Help BHA strengthen and expand external partnerships and participation in events related to advancing climate adaptation in the humanitarian context. This may include serving as a key focal point for external engagement in working groups or events such as COP-28 and developing strategic external communications.

The above tasks will be conducted in close coordination with USAID Missions, Washington, and partners and in line with relevant USAID policies and frameworks.

As part of the core team supporting BHA with the above tasks, the Specialist will be expected to work closely with other team members and provide support as needed to ongoing tasks related to climate risk management, integration of climate equity and justice, and other areas as needed.

This position is a one-year (12 month), full-time assignment.

Responsibilities:

* Lead design and development and contribute to delivery of virtual and (potentially) in-person trainings on climate risk management, climate adaptation in the humanitarian context, and climate equity and justice, among other topics.

* Develop learning tools, job aids, and other guidance documents to facilitate self-paced learning and mainstreaming of the BHA Climate Action Plan, climate risk management, and climate adaptation in BHA’s programming and operations.

* Draft and oversee development of communications products (blog posts, fact sheets, social media, etc.) and coordinate with BHA and USAID communications teams to disseminate.

* Serve as a key focal point for BHA’s participation in external working groups.

* Plan and lead multi-stakeholder meetings with BHA and external partners.

* Leads technical task design and implementation, contributes to deliverables, and manages discrete tasks and activities as needed, including across CASA’s areas of support to BHA.

* Represents CASA’s BHA support at external meetings, conferences, and convenings.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in international development, climate or environmental studies, communications, sociology, or relevant field.

* Minimum of 7 years’ experience developing trainings and adult learning and/or managing programs and partnerships as they relate to climate change adaptation and resilience, humanitarian action, climate justice, or relevant fields.

* Experience with humanitarian organizations and familiarity with climate considerations in the context of humanitarian response.

* Experience in public speaking and facilitation – both in person and in virtual settings.

* Experience leading remote teams and working in a client-facing context.

* Professional proficiency in English is required.

* Ability to travel internationally.

* Current US work authorization is required at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Three to five years of experience providing technical support to complex USAID-funded programs and familiarity with USAID policies preferred.

* A history of collaboration and fostering inclusive, equitable, locally led climate change adaptation activities.

* Experience with international humanitarian and/or disaster management donors and agencies.

* Proficiency in Spanish or French.

Pay Transparency Statement:

The anticipated pay range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 annually.
