WHAT WE DO …

SOLIDARITY INTERNATIONAL (SI)is an association of’ international humanitarian aid which, for more than 40 years, has been helping people who are victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by responding to the vital needs, drinking, eating, sheltering. Particularly engaged in the fight against diseases related to unhealthy’, the leading cause of death in the world, SI implements through its interventions an expertise in the field of’access to drinking’water,’sanitation and the promotion of hygiene but also in that, essential, food security and means of’. Present in more than 20 countries, the SI teams, 2500 people in total, composed of’expatriates, national staffs, permanent staff at headquarters, some volunteers…intervene with professionalism and commitment in respect of cultures.

THE MISSION

Since March 2020, SI has been working in France to respond to the COVID 19 health crisis in four territories. Our projects are aimed at the public living in degraded’habitats sites such as slums, camps or squats and having in particular limited access to basic services, in terms of’ potable water,’ sanitation, etc, and’access to the products of’ hygiene of first necessity. In times of health crisis, « non-connected » people are more vulnerable and have, more than ever, need of’ access to these services Water Hygiene and Sanitation to be able to apply barrier gestures and improve their living conditions.

Opening of’a mission in Mayotte : SI has been questioned by local associative actors, concerning the crisis of drinking’water which is facing a high share of the population living in the department of Mayotte.

The significant difficulties of’access to’eau,’ hygiene and’ sanitation of these people, and therefore the health risks to which they are exposed, led SI to establish a base in Mayotte at the end of 2022 to support local actors through 4 axes :

  • Coordination of local actors
  • L’restimation of epidemic risk
  • L’technical support for the development of local projects for’access to’eau and’
  • Advocacy and capacity building of local actors

JOB DESCRIPTION

General objective :

The Field Coordinator has a role of Global Coordinator on a region of’a country in which International Solidarity intervenes. He/she proposes the regional strategy according to the geopolitical and humanitarian context and ensures its implementation once validated. He/she is the’direct and privileged interlocutor of the Country Director and local partners.

As EHA program manager, he/she ensures the direct implementation and management of projects (activities, purchases,…) on his’ intervention area. The EHA manager, as a technical referent on his area, contributes to the’ development of the SI strategy, by proposing a sectoral EHA strategy for the’ intervention on sites of precarious habitats. The/the EHA manager takes part in all the field activities of his dedicated area,’, including the link with providers and participates in the follow-up of the activities implemented as well as’ to the evaluation of new needs.

Main Challenges :

The field coordinator/head of EHA is alone in his area. He teleworks and will be led to move a lot in a moving and sometimes complex and volatile context.

Priorities for the first 2/3 months :

  • Position taking/passing with the previous CT : He will have to understand the contextual, security issues and the specificities of the intervention areas. It will also have to understand the main internal tools and procedures to be autonomous at the end of the procurement. Support from the EHA coordinators, support and the Country Director will ensure continuity with the EHA field/RP coordinator
  • Meeting with all partners, local authorities and Bailleurs and establish a network
  • Respond to the request for EHA technical support and implement the activities planned with the partners

YOUR PROFILE

Training :

Specialty in water, hygiene, sanitation and CT experience would be a plus.

1 To 2 years of experience in the humanitarian sector.

Technical experience and skills :

  • Management of EHA project
  • Experience in field coordination
  • Development and animation of partnership
  • Relational ease and ability to create a partner network
  • EHA technical expertise and ability to explain/training and pedagogy: desire to transmit
  • Ability to cope alone and be multi-task

Languages :

French, shimaore/swahili appreciated

IF YOU WILL OFFER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS

An employee position : According to experience, from EUR 2640 gross per month (2400 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and an expensive living bonus of 35% gross salary is added to salary.

SI also covers accommodation and travel costs between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of employment.

Breaks : During the mission, a system of alternation between work and leave is set up at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with USD 850 allocated by Solidarity International). In addition to these break periods, there is one additional day of rest per month worked.

Social and medical coverage : Expatriates receive insurance that reimburses all health costs (including medical and surgical expenses, dental and ophthalmological care, etc, repatriation) and a contingency system including war risks. Vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are reimbursed.
