Mission and objectives

Under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC), who leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Armenia and coordinates all UN operations at the country level, the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) provides strategic coordination support to the UNCT. Its purpose is to maximize the work of the United Nations so that the system can provide a collective, coherent and integrated response to national priorities and needs, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The overall framework for the coordination of the UN operational activities at the country level is the Common Country Analysis (CCA) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), an overarching strategy framework for all the UN entities working in the country that is framed around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is in line with the national priorities. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) fulfills five key functions in support of the responsibilities of the RC and the UN Country Team (UNCT): strategic planning; development economics; partnerships and development finance; data and results management and reporting; communications and advocacy.

Context

The United Nations and donors implore the parties to uphold their international obligations to allow safe, rapid and unimpeded humanitarian aid to civilians in need and to ensure that civilians enjoy the freedom of movement and can access aid without being targeted. The UNCT in Armenia is deploying the Interagency Rapid Needs Assessment team to assess the sectoral needs of refugees in the localities hosting them. The Data and Reporting Online Volunteer will contribute to the generation of the Rapid Needs Assessment Report as well as strengthening secondary data review and filling information gaps. This will inform and improve humanitarian response planning, avoid gaps and duplications and facilitate the delivery of life-saving aid contributing to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
