AGIAMONDO e.V. is the personnel service of the German Catholics for International Cooperation. We are one of nine organisations in Germany recognised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) that second experts in accordance with the Development Workers Act (EhfG). We place qualified experts in church and non-governmental development cooperation projects.

Caritas Germany, the worldwide relief organisation of the German Caritas Association, ensures survival in natural disasters and crisis areas. Every year, it realises over 680 projects worldwide, including humanitarian aid, disaster relief and support for vulnerable groups. Caritas Germany has been active in Afghanistan since 1984 and has operated an office in Kabul since 2001 with around 25 employees and 10 projects. Despite the changed framework conditions from August 2021, the aid organisation continues to provide humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. The office focuses on providing advice, supporting partner organisations and coordinating functions.

On behalf of Caritas Germany, AGIAMONDO is recruiting for the position as Country Representive Afghanistan (m/f/x).

Your tasks:

  • You will ensure the proper management of the office, including personnel management and budget administration.
  • You will lead a team of international and national staff and be responsible for the safety and security of all involved.
  • You will represent Caritas Germany in Afghanistan in all relevant matters and liaise with local partnersde facto authorities and other stakeholders.
  • You will design, coordinate and manage Ci-funded emergency relief and development co-operation projects in collaboration with the predominantly national team.
  • You will coordinate relief activities with other humanitarian actors and the international Caritas network.
  • You will support the development of a long-term country strategy and work closely with the Afghanistan team in Freiburg.
  • You will be responsible for public relations work on the ground and ensure regular reporting to the Ci headquarters.
  • You will monitor and assess political conditions in Afghanistan and make appropriate recommendations for action.
  • You will supervise expert consultant assignments and visits by Ci staff.

Your Profile:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in humanitarian aid and/or development cooperation, ideally in crisis contexts.
  • You have experience in leading mixed teams of international and national staff.
  • You have practical knowledge of planning, managing and implementing complex aid programmes.
  • You have already worked in Afghanistan or in a comparable context.
  • You have experience with the financing of projects by external donors such as the EU, the Federal Foreign Office or the UN.
  • You have fluent command of English at negotiation level.
  • You keep calm even in challenging situations and can continue to work in a results-orientated manner.
  • Your strong resilience enables you to work and live even under the most challenging circumstances.
