Background

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly established UN Women « United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women » with a single triple mandate, which includes support for standard setting, coordination of the United Nations system and operational activities, to mobilize urgent and sustained action in favor of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and to contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development program in the horizon 2030.

UN Women has been present in Côte d’Ivoire since 2011, initially as a country program before its transformation into a country office in 2013. As part of its Strategic Note 2021-2025 or « country program », UN Women works alongside government, non-governmental organizations ( NGO ), United Nations agencies, development partners, communities and human rights protection networks to advance gender equality.

By placing the advancement of women’s human rights at the center of its work, UN Femmes Côte d’Ivoire is concentrating its actions in the following areas : ( i ) Promotion of female participation and leadership; ( ii ) economic empowerment of women; ( iii ) combating violence against women and girls ;( iv ) planning and budgeting

gender sensitive; ( v ) the implementation of international standards and intergovernmental processes on gender equality.

In order to support the implementation of its Strategic Note 2021-2025, the UN Country Office wishes to recruit a dynamic person with the required qualifications and experience, specialized in communication and advocacy which will promote the results of its actions and will contribute to improving the visibility of the institution.

Under the responsibility of the Country Representative, the consultant / consultant/e Communication and Social Media is responsible for ( e ) the implementation of communication strategies for the objectives of advocacy and resource mobilization. He / she is responsible for timely, precise and high quality information documents, such as graphic designs, photos, videos, visual stories of events and the terrain, etc

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Supervise and manage social media accounts and the website, including the development of design and content in accordance with the organization’s social media policy.
  •  Coordinate the Office’s web presence in accordance with the organization’s web policy ;
  •  Ensure the development and implementation of the social media strategy for the 16-day campaign of activism against violence against women and girls ;
  •  Write attractive and user-friendly publications on social media, ensure regular updating of social media and support the production of other content for social media
  •  Find creative and innovative ideas to maintain and stimulate communication and engagement with subscribers

Analyze the analytical data of social media in collaboration with the communication team of the Regional Office in order to support the expansion of the reach of UN Women on social media in the region

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications

Education :

  •  Master ( Bac + 5 ) or equivalent in communication, journalism, public relations or in a related field
  •  Otherwise, an undergraduate degree with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted.
  •  Project / program management certification would be an additional benefit

Experience:

  •  At least 5 years of relevant experience in digital communications, public relations or advocacy
  •  Experience in developing media content for development partners, governments and civil society organizations internationally and in the field ;
  •  Knowledge of gender equality and women’s empowerment
  •  Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of media communication and awareness strategies and plans in support of business objectives
  •  Proven experience of working in complex humanitarian or crisis contexts will be essential
  •  An experience working with the United Nations is an asset; and
  •  Work experience in the region is an asset

Language requirements :

  •  Master of French and English
  •  Knowledge of any other UN language will be an asset
