Child-Friendly Space Animators (8 Position ) At TPO Nigeria


TPO uses a community-based approach that emphasizes the identification and use of existing traditional/local structures and the transmission of new technologies. Some services are provided directly by TPO staff and others in support of local, community structures.

Job Title: Child-Friendly Space Animators (8 Position )
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State.

Job Role:

The Child-Friendly Space Animators has the responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation CFS activities at the camp/community Centre level. The CFS Animators will be responsible for coordinating children’s participation, activities and providing guidance to the Community Structures and Children on Child protection, child rights and children’s forums.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and lead sessions from the curriculum on a daily basis
  • Supervise and ensure a variety of children’s structured play and informal learning activities within the CFS Centre caters to the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities
  • In close collaboration with the CP Officer hold monthly parental meetings to keep them informed of any developments or problems within the CFS and surrounding areas
  • Ensure that children’s participation and input form the basis of the CFS and the activities
  • Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the CFS, that all children feel comfortable, safe, and respected and all children feel included and no child is discriminated against.
  • Establish a rotation system to promote the sharing of equipment and toys between children.
  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate conflict-solving behaviours.
  • Refer any child with need for more specialized support to the CFS Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all TPO policies, procedures and code of conducts that ensures transparency, services and accountability to beneficiaries and report any abuse of beneficiaries by other TPO staff, including sexual exploitation and abuse in accordance with TPO reporting procedures.
  • Manage and support the individual case management process including identification, documentation and referrals.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse,
  •  Ensure that all activities seen through a child safeguarding lens;
  •  Be vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm.
  •  Ensure all partners and beneficiaries of TPO are aware of the child safeguarding policy and promote the message of child safeguarding to children, beneficiary families, and community members in general,

Qualification/Experience:

  • Minimum of Secondary School Education
  • Knowledge of Hausa or Kanuri is a must.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience
  • Prior experience working with children and in emergency contexts
  • Observant and able to manage a group of up to 25 children at one time
  • Must be able to employ position methods of interaction with children and prevent inappropriate negative discipline or abuse
  • Prior experience in NGO work preferred

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of local languages
  • People of those locations are highly encouraged to apply
  • Experience and skills in the management of staff
  • Experience in designing and facilitating training sessions
  • Understanding of the regional dynamics of the conflict
  • Experience in working in an insecure environment
