Senior Library Assistant, London At International Maritime Organization (IMO)

  •  Assist in accessioning, description, and database updating activities related to MKC collections using modules of the ILS.Conduct searches in bibliographic utilities for MARC records.

    Perform content pre-cataloguing, creating appropriate levels of bibliographic, item and controlled vocabulary metadata.

    Conduct data acquisition, data cleansing, data entry, and database development for MKC databases using citation management software.

    Participate in long-term projects such as weeding, upgrading catalogue records, retrospective cataloguing, and reclassification of MKC collections, and other initiatives.

    Conduct basic preparatory research for updating online resources or web sites, providing document delivery services, or acquisition of new resources.

    Maintain and update MKC Internet and Intranet web pages.

    Assist in the maintenance and development of electronic reference tools and bibliographies using web publishing tools (LibGuides) and citation management software. [SG1]

    Provide guidance to staff, researchers, students, and visitors in the use of the MKC and its resources.

    Provide technical support and instruction, to IMO staff and MKC visitors, relating to IMOs electronic resources (subscriptions).

    Manage the information access requirements and the organization and delivery of training to IMO interns and externs.

    Assist with digitization, digital archiving, and metadata-related processes for IMO content.

    Perform circulation, serial check in, and the compilation of reports and statistics using the MKCs ILS.

    Act as first point of contact for general enquires.

    Draft content for web site updates and responses to enquires for approval by the Head, MKC.

    Manage regular stock checks and maintain a list of missing materials.

    Provide administrative support for the Head, MKC and undertake other library related duties, as may be assigned.

Reporting to the Head, Maritime Knowledge Centre, the incumbent supports the delivery of an effective and professional library service responding to the information and research needs of the Organization, its Member States, delegates, as well as international students and researchers.

  •  Knowledge of all library operations, including editorial standards, cataloguing, electronic resources integrated library systems and digitization.
  •  Ability to undertake relevant research, effectively maintain records and retrieve information as required, accurately and at pace.
  •  Able to manage priorities and resources ensuring agreed objectives are achieved within required timeframes.
  •  Ability to identify potential risks and plan contingencies as required.
  •  Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with others in relation to information sharing.
  •  Ability to conduct public speaking, presentations, and training.

Required: Secondary education to university entrance standard.

Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required.

Ability to copy catalogue applying MARC and Resource Description and Access (RDA) standards is required.
