Founded in 2011, International NGO Safety Organization ( INSO ) is an international non-governmental organization that supports humanitarian security actors by establishing security coordination platforms in risky contexts.

INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services to its partners, including real-time incident monitoring, analytical reports, security-related data and mapping, support in crisis management, staff orientation and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1,000 NGOs in 16 of the world’s insecure countries.

INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

The INSO mission in RD Congo

INSO started its activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2012, first covering the provinces of North Kivu ( Goma ) and South Kivu ( Bukavu ). Our intervention area then widened with Ituri ( Bunia ) in 2017 then Tanganyika ( Kalemie ) in 2018. We now provide our services to around 150 Congolese and international NGOs. INSO DRC offers a stimulating working environment and a unique opportunity to evolve in a context that is both fascinating and complex.

Post summary

As Safety Advisor Ituri, you will be based ( e ) in Bunia with trips to the region. You will have the unique opportunity to work with a united team to provide contextual analysis and security advice to the NGO community and help improve humanitarian access. Your responsibilities will mainly be the production of analysis products according to INSO standards, the management and strengthening of the team, and advice to partners.

To be selected ( e ), you must have solid humanitarian experience, particularly in context analysis, humanitarian access and security management of NGOs. You must be an open, curious, rigorous person, capable of managing and strengthening a team, of communicating with an excellent level of French and above all, willing to share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensure the provision of INSO services for the Ituri region ( Alerts, reports, meetings, advice ), by producing rapid and credible contextual analyzes, in accordance with internal policies ;
  • Supervise and manage an operational team ;
  • Conduct context assessment missions regularly ;
  • Set up an active information network bringing together key players, national and international ;
  • Represent INSO in the province and actively participate in the various coordination platforms ;
  • Help NGOs develop their own security management capacities by providing sound advice on risk management policies, site security and crisis management ;
  • Manage the internal security of INSO personnel and property in the province ;
  • Supervise, strengthen and support an operational team and support ( log, admin, RH )
  • Effectively represent and promote the mandate of independence, impartiality and neutrality of INSO.

Mandatory conditions

  • French current and practical knowledge of English ;
  • Master level training in a relevant field, or lower level with significant experience ;
  • Experience of at least two years on an NGO position with risk management and humanitarian access responsibilities, with team management ( head of mission, field coordinator, basic manager, safety reference, etc. ) in a conflict / post-conflict environment ;
  • Excellent writing, analysis, and rigor – the position involves a lot of editing and correction work.

Desired characteristics

  • Minimum a year of field experience in the DRC, Ituri especially ;
  • Experience in liaison with armed actors ( CMCOORD ) and in International Humanitarian Law ( IHL ) ;
  • Strong understanding of the principles and practices in humanitarian action, risk management, security, access to NGOs and the mandate of INSO ;
  • Knowledge of Swahili is an asset.

Terms and conditions

12 month contract. Monthly salary of € 4550 per month, 4 calendar days of annual leave per month worked, 7 days of R&R every 2 months with an allowance of € 1250, accommodation, overall medical coverage ( Excluded United States ) and life insurance included.
