Responsible for’studies H/F At Doctors Without Borders


Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened : mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from care. The French section is present in about thirty countries.

The Centre for Reflection on Humanitarian Action and Knowledge (CRASH) is an original structure in the NGO world. Its purpose is to facilitate debate and critical reflection on field practices and public positioning in order to improve the action of the association. The members of the CRASH carry out and conduct studies and analyses concerning the work of MSF. They work in close coordination with MSF operational managers. They participate in in-house training sessions as well as field assessment missions. Finally, they represent the association in meetings, symposia and other places of research and reflection related in particular to universities, intergovernmental bodies and NGOs.

In this context, Le Crash is looking for a Responsible of’cudes.

Mission:

Context :

The Head of’ studies is responsible for· to implement the following two missions for the Crash :

  • Conduct a research and disseminate it within MSF France (OCP) or more widely
  • Pilot the 2 annual sessions of Field Oriented Operational Training – FOOT

Main missions :
Under the supervision of the CRASH Coordinator,

Main activities of’emploi :

Research & evaluation :

  • Conduct an in-depth study on an issue identified within the Steering Committee of the Crash. This study focuses on the’environment in which MSF operates and on the practices of the’association (medical and logistical practices, negotiation practices, communication practices, management practices, etc.).
  • Disseminate internally and externally the results of his research through the writing of’ one or more texts (articles, posts, interviews or other), and/or’public interventions.
  • Contribute to the collective work by having a critical review of the studies, evaluations and critical reviews, and/or publications of the other members of the Crash.

Training :

  • In partnership with the Management Committee and more particularly the Operations Department, coordinate and animate the two annual sessions of the Crash seminar, FOOT.
  • Participate, on request, in other internal MSF training courses (OCP and other sections) and, where appropriate, in external training courses (university, IEP, etc.).

Additional activities :

Council :

Respond to requests for advice from the headquarters or the field on issues of’ topicality. To this end :

  • Write notes (based on’observations,’interviews and documentary research).
  • Go to the field (visit or operational detachment) if necessary.
  • Facilitate contact with specialists in the scientific world.

Dissemination of knowledge and facilitation of debates :

Intervene (in the’ or the’oral) in public and associative debates on humanitarian issues and practices

Professional skills

Experience and training :

  • Master II level training, medical or social sciences.
  • Significant experience in’ humanitarian aid (headquarters and/or field) is expected, including at least one experience with MSF.
  • Interest or practice in the social sciences required.

Skills :

  • Ability to carry out social science surveys and render them in formats accessible to a wide audience (including practitioners).
  • Ability to lead debates and discussions.

Languages : French and English level C1 required.

Qualities required

  • Sense of’observation and spirit of synthesis.
  • Intellectual curiosity.
  • Autonomy and a sense of teamwork (a largely self-managed team).
  • Independence of’, ability to face controversies.

Position specifics

Status : CDD 12 months. Framework post.

Conditions:

54,58K€ gross annual over 13 months.

22 Days of RTT per year. Complementary health care 100% supported by Doctors Without Borders. Titles restaurants d’a face value of 11€ (60% support by Doctors Without Borders). Support for 50% of the public transport ticket.

Taking of post : 2 september 2024.
