NDI Programs in Nigeria

Since the 1998/99 transition from military to civilian rule, NDI has supported the efforts of Nigerian civil society and legislators to strengthen the country’s political processes and nascent democratic institutions. NDI currently provides technical assistance to Nigerian civil society groups as they engage in systematic citizen election observation; conduct voter education programs targeting youth on the importance of peaceful elections; advocate to prevent gender-based electoral violence; and conduct advocacy and outreach to increase the political inclusion of marginalized groups.
