Protection Technical Advisor – focus on MHPSS- Africa Region At IsraAID

IsraAID headquarters leads the organization’s worldwide activity, and it is also responsible for providing oversight, guidance, and support to the different projects.

SUMMARY

IsraAID is looking for a Protection Technical Advisor to be a part of the Protection team at HQ.
This position is an exciting opportunity to guide and support Protection programs being run in different countries which are focused primarily on psychosocial support in a non-profit project organization. The ideal candidate will combine experience in humanitarian aid with experience in providing mental health and psycho-social support services in general and specifically in times of emergency and crisis.

IsraAID’s Protection Technical Advisor will work together with both the Protection team in HQ as well as the Protection teams in several countries to assure that the planning, design, and implementation of Protection programs from the technical aspects including quality content is implemented in the most professional way. The scope of work of the technical advisor will be designed according to a development plan based on the sector’s annual goals and field needs.

CONTEXT

IsraAID is a non-profit, non-governmental, and apolitical humanitarian aid agency dedicated to supporting populations in crisis around the world, Founded in 2001. As of 2020, the organization has responded to crises in 50 countries and has operations that span 15 countries and a wide number of different sectors of expertise from both the humanitarian aid and international development arenas.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Build the Sectorial body of knowledge in accordance with the most recent theoretical developments and international aid agenda.
  2. Offer technical support to protection programs and operations in different countries.
  3. Participate in Global working groups.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Offer technical support to Protection programs and operations.

  • Support in-country team members in the implementation of protection programs.
  • When needed, support in the recruitment process of protection professionals.
  • Support the development of the sectorial body of knowledge including protection sector foundational content and professional library.
  • Assist in the development of MEAL tools for protection programs.
  • Review Project proposals and/or project reports from a technical protection perspective.
  • Offer technical support to the Protection team leads in the field teams in the implementation of Protection programs.
  • Guide staff members and review content development for protection programs.
  • Offer a weekly supervision call with protection team members in the relevant countries.
  • Engage with the CO management team according to need,
  • Work closely with the regional director and the program officers at HQ as well as other TAs in the technical unit to support the CO
  • Support the development of exit strategies for Protection programs from a technical perspective and support the country offices in the process.
  • Support the planning, design, and implementation of emergency programs (Protection) in COs that are already doing resilience programs.
  • Field visits – visit country offices.

2. Build the Sectoral body of knowledge in accordance with the most recent theoretical developments and international aid agenda.

  • Participate in the development of appropriate programming tools for the development, implementation, and phase-out of protection programs.
  • Participate in the development of protection tools.
  • Participate in the design of the sectorial body of knowledge; including guidebooks, modules, trainer’s handbooks, and other relevant tools.
  • Participate in the development of a database for references and links to relevant sectoral resources.

3. Represent IsraAID in the global humanitarian and resilience sphere

  • Have a thorough understanding of the mission and regional contexts.
  • Raise the profile of IsraAID, its work’ and country missions through active participation in Interaction forums, and external events when possible.
  • Serve as an advocate for the country’s missions
  • Participate in international working groups, promoting IsraAID as an actor in the Humanitarian aid field.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES

  1. Fluent in written and spoken English.
  2. M.A. level of academic background in psychology, social work, or therapeutic fields.
  3. Proven experience in implementing community-based psychosocial programs in the context of developing countries, and emergency settings.
  4. Minimum of 5 years experience working in protection settings offering psychosocial support, therapy, and/or case management.
  5. Proven background in facilitating training/workshops/group sessions.
  6. Proven experience in staff guidance and supervision.
  7. Proven experience in developing training materials and manuals in MHPSS and Protection. (Portfolio)
  8. Experience using program design tools- Log frames, PDs, and proposals.
  9. Experience working in Humanitarian/development context with community-based methodologies.
  10. Availability to go on field visits to different countries 3 times a year (for 2- 3 weeks each visit).
  11. Availability to travel to Israel 3 times a year (if not based in Israel).

  • Experience in working with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.,).

LOCATION

  • Global- Availability in 50% of the working hours in Tel Aviv (Advantage: Israel)
  • Availability to travel to Israel and the different COs.

LANGUAGES

  • Required: English- Fluent

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 100% position- 5 working days.
