GRC is an international human rights law and development firm based in the Hague, committed to promoting international law, particularly international humanitarian law (IHL) and human rights. Our Business and Human Rights team works on a number of projects globally, in collaboration with governments to strengthen the regulatory environment, with businesses to raise their standards, and with civil society organizations (CSOs) and communities to build capacity on access to remedy for human rights violations.
Duty Station: Remote, with occasional travel to Guatemala and other locations as required.
Contract Duration: 10 months.
The Role
The Project Director will focus on enabling civil society efforts to use strategic litigation to address the misuse, diversion, and abuse of weapons exports to Guatemala. This role will be responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the team in the delivery of GRC’s project; liaising with the Project Partners; ensuring activities are successfully delivered in accordance with timelines; delegating tasks to team members; sign-off on GRC’s project activities and the delivery of the project in accordance with the agreed upon methodology.
Project Management: Coordinate the project management function from both project sides as well as the Finance, HR, Compliance, budget & burn rate follow-up, M&E, and external communication pieces and oversee the project for a smooth implementation. Coordination with project partners and the project manager in the field.
Development & Delivery of Training: Develop and deliver training for project beneficiaries on topics relating to accountability for the misuse and abuse of arms exports.
Project Delivery: Conduct research on arms exports; lead and participate in meetings with stakeholders including government officials, UN agencies, and civil society.
Team Management: Align with other team members to ensure efficient working streams and timely completion of project deliverables; provide mentorship and support to other team members, offering guidance to enable them to perform to their full potential.
Your Background
- 7 or more years of experience with in-depth knowledge of the small arms sector.
- Experience in developing and delivering training.
- Able to work as part of a multicultural team working towards a common goal and respectful of differentiating working approaches
- Fluent in Spanish and English, written and verbal skills.
- Experience managing and leading a US-funded project; experience in working on projects related to Guatemala is preferable.
- Degree in law, international relations, or business.
- Knowledge of international human rights and business and human rights.
- Practical experience working with a variety of stakeholders including civil society organizations, and governmental and intergovernmental institutions.
- Experience in investigations, including the use of OSINT.
- Experience in conducting capacity-building activities with civil society organizations.
- Able to work on their own initiative and with limited supervision, without requiring detailed guidance to get started but who can be given a desired outcome and figure out the action areas required to reach it.
- Flexible, versatile, and creative and able to work in a changeable & fast-moving environment, and capable of spontaneously supporting project deliverables that are not in their remit where needed.
- Proactive character, suggesting solutions and approaches, anticipating problems, and foreseeing potential challenges.
- Able to think practically, to break down and pursue the elements required to operationalise a strategy.
- Administratively competent; able to manage competing urgent demands.
