Project Coordinator – Mykolaiv – Ukraine – M/F At ALIMA


ALIMA in Ukraine

ALIMA started working in Ukraine in April 2022, following an exploratory mission which took place between March and May 2022 in Moldova and in the Mykolaivska Oblast. ALIMA has had a Coordination Office in Odessa and has been intervening in the Mykolaivska Oblast since June 2022. In December 2022, ALIMA extended its activities to the Khersonska Oblast, following the liberation and renewed access of the northern strip of the Oblast. ALIMA’s operational strategy revolves around a comprehensive needs analysis and robust collaboration and communication with local health authorities and district officials.

This approach ensures effective planning and implementation of ALIMA’s interventions, aligning them with the identified needs of the affected populations ALIMA’s activities focus on:

(a) the clinical management of cases through the deployment of a specialised mobile clinic in rural and isolated villages;

  • The provision of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) through a network of psychologists working on the mobile clinic and through a hotline;
  • The support to hospitals and primary health centres through donations of medicines, medical supplies and medical equipment to ensure the continuity of care;
  • The provision of specific support to the Berezanka hospital, through the deployment of an anesthesiologist who enables the continuation of surgical activities and carries out capacity building activities;
  • Rehabilitation works of damaged and destroyed health facilities and;
  • Capacity building activities on specific topics such as Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mass Casualty Planning (MCP).

Since December 2022, ALIMA is also working on strengthening its activities through the setting up of community health workers networks in its areas of intervention Since the beginning of its intervention in the country, ALIMA has carried out more than 6,500 primary consultations, more than 7,500 specialised consultations and more than 1,500 MHPSS consultations; targeted more than 20 primary health centres and hospitals through donations of medicines, medical items and medical equipment; and has launched the rehabilitation of more than 10 health facilities in the Mykolaivska and Khersonska Oblasts. The mobile team has been instrumental in providing healthcare services in 38 villages, and more than 3,500 people have been reached by outreach activities ALIMA has been officially registered in Ukraine since September 1, 2022 and is fully operational in the country, already implementing activities in both aforementioned regions.

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Level 3: As part of his/her duties, the incumbent will visit programs and come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct will be required. In situations where it is not possible to provide a criminal record or a certificate of good conduct, a declaration of honor will be requested.

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

  • He/she reports to the Head of Mission, based in the coordination
  • He/she manages the project management team (e.g. Medical Officer, Administration Officer, Logistics Officer, and Nursing Officer) as well as the national teams in collaboration with the technical officers at the project level.
  • He/she collaborates with the coordination (medical, logistic, financial, and human resources) and with the partners.

Mission Location: Mykolaiv

MAIN TASK

Under the supervision of the Head of Mission, the project coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the country’s operational strategy in his/her area of intervention, in line with the three-year strategic plan and ALIMA’s mandate.

More specifically, he/she is responsible for the implementation of the project and for contributing to the results set for the project according to the evolution of the humanitarian situation and the needs in the intervention zone and on the basis of the medico-operational objectives prefixed in collaboration with the coordination, in the respect of the humanitarian principles and the mandate of ALIMA. He/she is the guarantor of the security of his/her teams in the whole intervention zone. He/she is responsible for the supervision of the teams, the monitoring of the programmatic indicators and the contractual indicators of the donors, and the monitoring of the project’s expenses – with the support of the coordination – and the communication with the governmental and non-governmental actors in relation to the project.

The CP, above all, must:

  • act in accordance with ALIMA’s mandate, humanitarian principles, and the “do no harm” principle.
  • Respect the operational strategy defined with the other coordinators (collaborate with other humanitarian, international, and governmental actors present in the intervention zone).

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Training

  • You have Medical or paramedical degree, ideally with a specialization or training in Tropical Medicine or related studies

Experience

  • You have experience in medical INGO in managing medical projects and supervising a multicultural team
  • You demonstrate deep negotiation capacity and are able to develop and maintain an efficient network
  • Working experience in nutritional projects is an asset.
  • You are comfortable with computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
  • You like to develop strategic vision for new program and supporting a multidisciplinary team in encouraging teamwork

CONDITIONS

  • Contract term: Contract under French law; contract length: 6 months, renewable.
  • Position to be filled: December 2023
  • Salary: depending on experience

ALIMA pays for:

  • Travel costs between the expatriate’s country of origin and the mission location
  • Accommodation costs
  • Medical cover from the first day of the contract to a month after the date of departure from the mission country for the employee and his/her family
  • Evacuation of the employee
