Purpose of role

The Programme Officer Assistant will enhance the quality of the Sightsavers Inclusive Education programme and ensure programmes and projects are planned, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to the highest possible standards as laid out in the organization’s policies and procedures, including budget monitoring. The post holder will collaborate with other staff, partners, and actors to identify areas for programme growth and assist in identifying and developing new initiatives. They will travel to all areas where the project is implemented.

About the role Programme Officer Assistant, IE

  • Identify partner organizations Sightsavers can work with to achieve the organization’s strategic priorities, through both service delivery and advocacy work.
  • Develop and support longer-term relationships with partners going beyond the duration of individual projects.
  • Support partners in the identification of their own capacity building needs and help facilitate the provision of these needs.
  • Disseminate information about Sightsavers and its work to partners.
  • Promote shared learning and collaboration between partners by facilitating partner networks and meetings.
  • Travel to all areas of implementation of the project
  • Assist project partners in the preparation of budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure of project financial resources and liaise with the FSSM/Officer where necessary.
  • Ensure that partners submit timely financial returns.
  • Participate in all PR activities within the Area including World Disability Day.
  • Represent Sightsavers at various forums, meetings, and advocate for Sightsavers philosophy and policies.

Knowledge, skills and experience for Programme Officer Assistant, IE

Essential:

  • Working experience, and/or a tertiary degree OR equivalent qualification within Education/Gender/Disability Studies/Education/Social Work
  • Able to travel nationally across Mali frequently.
  • Fluent in French and Bamanakan, with English language skills
  • Right to work in Mali with relevant documents to evidence this
  • Experience of designing/managing programmes designed to facilitate inclusion of marginalized children.
  • Experience of policy and advocacy work in education, particularly in relation to disability rights, UNCRPD, SDGs, inclusion, or social protection
  • Knowledge of current issues and best practice in social inclusion, disability, and development.
  • Good knowledge of the key international networks and organizations working on social inclusion and disability.
  • Familiarity with international legislation and policies in the field of disability and human rights – in particular the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Strong Excel and IT skills

Desirable:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (social work/gender; disability studies, education, etc.) would be an advantage.

The selection process will contain one written task, and two stage oral interviews at our Mali office. The task will be sent out during the week of 8 January, with interviews taking place during the week of 22 January, and 29 January.
