ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the supervision of the Projects Manager for the Caribbean, the Program Officer – Caribbean Programs provides strategic support and oversight on a variety of tasks, including project management, donor reporting, proposal development, and monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) activities. The Program Officer is responsible for management-level support for a variety of projects under the Caribbean portfolio.

Our ideal candidate has a good understanding of the culturally and socially diverse communities that exist across the Caribbean. We, at Internews, always look at our local partners’ needs first. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for building relationships with a large network of diverse individuals and organizations. While patience is a virtue when supporting projects in very complex environments, the successful candidate will also be proactive and detail-oriented, and take a dynamic approach to project implementation.

LOGISTICS

This is a fully-remote role; our ideal candidate is based in the US, Canada, or Mexico. Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. Candidates based in the Washington, DC area who would prefer a partial remote position should feel free to express this preference during the hiring process.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Directly manage multiple subgrants and/or contracts.
  • Responsible for programmatic development and project support for the Americas Program Management Unit (PMU).
  • Assist the Projects Manager for the Caribbean with project oversight, including financial tracking and progress towards program deliverables.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for relevant local partners’ programmatic inquiries.
  • Lead funder quarterly and final reports and supervise other team members’ contributions and new programmatic ideas.
  • Explore and contribute to new development opportunities.
  • Provide the Projects Manager for the Caribbean and other relevant staff with projections and budget analysis of relevant subgrants and projects.
  • Maintain project activity tracking schedules for project development, field reports, and follow-up communications with funders in coordination with the Projects Manager for the Caribbean.
  • Assist with set-up for new projects, including consultant and local staff recruitment as needed.
  • Provide project field staff, when applicable, with support on research, correspondence, and procurement.
  • Represent Internews at conferences and events, with funders and with technical experts.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Relevant university degree OR equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Minimum five years’ programmatic experience in a relevant nonprofit.
  • Extensive grant proposal writing experience, and proven text-editing proficiency in English.
  • Professional proficiency in English, Spanish, and French is required; native/bilingual fluency in at least one of the above is highly desired.
  • Prior experience working with diverse groups of people and communities in the Caribbean.
  • Experience in developing or supporting development or international programs.
  • Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple ongoing assignments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Proficiency in relevant regional languages is a significant asset.
  • Experience working in the Latin America region is an asset.
  • Previous work experience with USG and/or EU-funded programs and projects is preferred.
