KIA is an ambitious initiative of Village Health Works (VHW), an NGO founded in 2005 in Burundi. KIA is a bilingual high school system created to train a new generation of young ethical leaders and entrepreneurs in Burundi.

Students are at the heart of their own transformative education at KIA. The school recruits, identifies and selects the most promising students throughout Burundi. The selected individuals not only demonstrated academic success, but also demonstrated leadership and commitment to improving their school and communities.

KIA brings together this cohort of students from diverse backgrounds for a powerful four-year educational and leadership journey. Skills and abilities such as critical thinking and character development are intentionally integrated into a high and sustained level of academic achievement. KIA helps these young students reinvent what is possible in a progressive and intentional sequence throughout their four years of high school and their future careers.

One of KIA’s missions is to serve as a model’ school to help strengthen and enrich the Burundian education system. In doing so, it also prepares KIA graduates to succeed in the universities of the’Africa community of the’East, Central Africa and internationally.

Overview General of the Post Office

We are looking for a teacher of the course of ‘ Sciences de la Terre’ for the Post Fundamental level. A dedicated and experienced person to join our team. As a teacher of ‘Sciences de la Terre’, the/the candidate will have to teach this course with the aim of developing theoretical and applied skills of students. He/She will also be responsible for assigning assignments, scoring assignments and quizzes, as well as documenting student progress. The candidate must possess a thorough understanding of effective teaching practices. Our ideal candidate(e) will be able to create a stimulating learning environment that is sensitive to the diverse abilities of students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan lessons and deliver the course to facilitate students’ understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Prepare and distribute learning materials such as notes, assignments and quizzes.
  • Have a research ability and not be content with the notes available in the manuals.
  • Ensure that the classroom remains conducive to learning.
  • Record homework and quizzes in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate learners on objective criteria that are in line with the’integration pedagogy and critical and creative thinking.
  • Document and report on student progress.
  • Participate in meetings with parents and staff.
  • Check the punctuality and regularity of students
  • Make all necessary reports requested by the school management
  • Contribute imaginatively to extracurricular and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in Geology or Physics experience of 3 years or more a teach the Post Fundamental Level
  • Have a recognized national record of success at the’State Examination
  • Have highly organized planning and time management capabilities
  • Have a fundamental and advanced understanding of Earth Sciences
  • Possess highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have technical competence in creating and following courses, tests and other assignments for many students
  • Have accurate verbal and written instructional abilities
  • Have patience and emotional management skills to deal with learners of various ages and personalities
  • Experience in Entrepreneurship and IT leadership is a plus
  • An ability to communicate in English is an advantage.
