Context:

The Department of Media and Communications (MCD) serves as the strategic hub for external and internal communications activities within the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The mandate of the Department is to manage and enhance the organization’s global visibility, communication and outreach. MCD offers invaluable support to IOM Headquarters, as well as regional and country offices globally, ensuring a cohesive and impactful approach to communication while positioning IOM as a global leader, contributing to understanding and support for the organization’s work. Moreover, MCD plays a pivotal role in shaping the narrative surrounding migration-related issues and ensuring that IOM’s mission, goals and activities are effectively communicated to diverse audiences worldwide.

Under the direct supervision of the Multimedia Production Officer, the Multimedia Associate will collaborate closely with other team members to support the technical production of audio and video products for IOM for both internal and external dissemination across IOM. These materials include podcast, audio and visual content for broadcasting channels, social media channels, website, both recorded at HQ and using audio and video content from the field.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in preparing and reviewing short scripts and storylines for audio-visual content intended for both external and internal dissemination.
  2. Provide technical support to capture IOM activities for producing promotional content in audio and video podcast formats.
  3. Support in the production and post-production of podcast episodes, facilitating the delivery of high-quality content.
  4. Contribute to capacity-building efforts, including through IOM’s Our Weekly Lessons and other relevant platforms.
  5. Provide technical support to capture IOM activities specifically for Private Sector Partnership content production, in alignment with campaign objectives.
  6. Edit and produce flexible audio-visual content packages tailored for various PSP target audiences, including individual giving, fundraising campaigns, private and corporate philanthropic giving, and the Goodwill Ambassador programme.
  7. Edit audio, video, and photo content for short-form fundraising purposes during emergency situations for social media and email channels.
  8. Assist in managing multimedia assets, including organizing and archiving audio and video files and updating IOM’s media library.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of multimedia production SOPs to maintain consistency and quality across all content produced.
  10. Assist the AV team in day-to-day needs as required.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Media and Communications, Photography or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in capturing video and audio content in a studio setting.
  • Experience in capturing video and audio content at live events.
  • Experience in capturing video and audio content on assignment/ in field operations.
  • Experience in sound design, mixing and SFX editing.
  • Experience in editing and producing video and audio content.
  • Experience in script writing.
  • Experience in content production planning.
  • Experience working within UN settings.

Skills

  • Fluency in audio production workflows for live recording;
  • Fluency in using audio production equipment;
  • Fluency in live sound mixing;
  • Fluency in audio editing software, such as Adobe Audition, Audacity or similar;
  • Fluency in sound design;
  • Fluency in using video recording equipment;
  • Fluency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Da VinciResolve or similar;
  • Proven ability to plan workflows;
  • Proven ability to produce work precisely and concisely according to set deadlines;• Knowledge of IOM’s mandate and programme of activities; and,
  • Knowledge of training others in audio-visual production.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
