MSF -OCBA is looking for a Manager of Simulation Activities (Temporary one year/position contract based in Burkina Faso) At Doctors Without Borders


MAIN OBJECTIVE

The hospital simulation activities manager provides strategic and functional expertise and guidance in the development of learning processes and improving the quality of emergency care, including, paediatric and neonatal (according to the zero separation approach) at BOBO hospital in the’Est, using the simulation methodology. This position coordinates, plans and implements educational simulation and simulation programs as part of quality improvement processes in order to effectively achieve the objectives of the operational mission.

This person must also have experience in emergency and pediatric care to ensure that protocols are taught correctly using simulations.

The Bobo project should serve as a training center for local, national and subregional staff, the simulation being used in all the programs developed and implemented in BOBO. Bobo will also be a place where regional staff can be trained in simulation as part of a specific training program.

All activities will be carried out in accordance with MSF values, policies and protocols, universal health standards and best practices in simulation.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • With the support of the HR coordinator and in collaboration with the coordination, responsible for the definition, development, promotion, application, etc, follow-up and advice on the learning and development strategy based on simulation and the use of simulation for quality improvement processes for the staff of the maternity department and the mission with the aim of developing MSF staff (and external collaborators, where appropriate) in order to effectively achieve the mission’s operational objectives.
  • Advise and assist coordinators, managers and supervisors to create supportive learning environments and integrate appropriate simulation learning programs to continuously improve staff performance.
  • Advising and supporting coordinators, managers and supervisors on how to use simulation for quality improvement processes to contribute to quality and safety of care.
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and develop the simulation program, with medical managers, supervisors and activity managers, to ensure the achievement of quality of care goals in departments.
  • Identify and collaborate with the medical managers of each service ( supervisors and activity managers ) on the areas to be improved, the priority clinical subjects / techniques and develop basic simulation programs.
  • Coordinate and supervise the daily implementation of simulation activities within the framework of the BOBO project which would link the different departments.
  • Advance simulation activities in the various BOBO ( departments / departments according to the targeted skills to be developed ( according to the curriculum and the basic simulation plan for learners ), in coordination with the medical team responsible for each department.
  • Equip these focal points with educational simulations and simulations for quality improvement processes in accordance with best practices.
  • Provide technical support to focal points for the implementation of simulation and coaching/training activities at the foot of the bed.
  • Supervise and monitor staff learning, and, quality improvement and the implementation of simulation activities that maximize staff development and quality improvement processes in order to achieve operational objectives.
  • Support other project initiatives such as the MSF academy (simulation in their programmes), as well as POCUS and in particular the “zero separation” initiative”.
  • Develop project-specific scenarios with the help of the simulation team at the address not available
  • If necessary, participate in the recruitment of new focal points.
  • Support, involve and train supervisors and service managers in the implementation of simulation and training/mentoring activities at the bedside of the patient in the services, including, as part of a methodology for continuous quality improvement.
  • With the support of the HR, coordination and simulation team of MSF in the field, the, develop a Bobo-specific program to train regional staff in educational simulation and simulation for quality improvement.
  • Evaluate and monitor the achievement of objectives, as well as the results of simulation activities and training/mentoring at the bedside of the patient, in coordination with supervisors, managers, project coordination and human resources department.
  • Contribute to the development of advanced, innovative and useful simulation-based learning solutions and initiatives that could be useful to all MSF for the global workforce.
  • Keep the MSF medical coordinator and field simulation responsible for monitoring BOBO informed of the activities and discuss the difficulties or challenges encountered in order to find solutions together.
  • Participate in the definition and updating of the annual planning and budget of the project.

RESPONSIBILITY SPECIFIC TO THE MSF SECTION / CONTEXT

The Bobo project is an MSF OCBA “by choice” project, which started in January 2023 in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. In addition to supporting the health activities of the CMA of Dafra ( mother-child health, emergencies, pediatrics and CRENI ) and community activities, one of the main operational objectives of the project is to develop a training and capacity building framework for staff, innovation and experimentation for the benefit of operations in the Sahel and French-speaking missions in the area, and meet the medico-humanitarian needs of the region in partnership with centers such as the Muraz Center or the Sourou CHU in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The Bobo project should serve as a training center for local, national and subregional staff.

Bobo will also be a place where staff from the region can be trained in simulation through a specific training program.

The Bobo project simulation activities started in February 2023.

MSF OCBA agreed with MSF Field Simulation on the integration of simulation activities from the start of the Bobo project: Translational simulation, with three clear strategies, associated with quality improvement methodologies. These three strategies are simulation to explore, simulation to test and simulation to integrate best practices ( see document, October 2022 ).

Education

  • Doctors or paramedical diploma…
  • Simulation training certificate ( Master, PHD )

Experience

  • Professional experience of at least 1 to 2 years in pediatrics
  • Professional experience of at least two years in a hospital setting.
  • Previous work experience with MSF or another NGO is a major asset.
  • Experience in mentoring, training and facilitation would be an asset.

Languages

  • Mastery of French essential.

Knowledge

  • Mastery of essential’informatics (word, excel and internet)
