Position Title: MHPSS Trainer

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the MHPSS Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the Family and Community Support Coordinator, the successful candidate will be training IOM staff and other actors involved at a routine basis on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support related matters. He or she will be performing the following functions and responsibilities:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize and provide technical training based on global guidelines such as IOM Manual on Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergencies and Displacement.
  2. Train IOM staff and partners e.g. on the psychosocial aspects of the refugee experience, Psychological First Aid, basic psychosocial support skills, including listening skills, and the relevance of the do no harm approach across different sectors.
  3. Ensure completion and analysis of pre-/post- knowledge tests and on-the-job supervision checklists.
  4. Support the integration of mental health services throughout CAS operation by utilizing the MHPSS SOPs, collecting feedback from IOM partners and guests and supporting sustainable and measurable systems-level integration.
  5. Implement the trainings in line with IOM global MHPSS standards and guidelines and closely coordinate with QRC Mental Health volunteers for development and review of training materials and reports.
  6. Work within the framework of the IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings and Sphere standards.
  7. Document and report all MHPSS training activities conducted at CAS using SYNC in coordination with the MHPSS team.
  8. Collaborates with different CAS programs, such as Protection, Health, SNFI, Community Engagement, for internal referrals to provide guidance to on MHPSS services within and outside of CAS.
  9. Co-ordinates with the concerned other department staff, mainly Protection and Health, to identify and address cases of child abuse and domestic violence that requires MHPSS training and capacity building to address these cases.
  10. Organize platforms, workshop on disseminating key information and advocacy messages on MHPSS.
  11. Build capacity of IOM staff, CAS focal points, QRC and Community volunteers on MHPSS related issues through workshops and trainings.
  12. Participate in the continuous monitoring and evaluation of the program and in the logistical elaboration of the programmatic phases of intervention.
  13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University Degree in Psychology, Public Health, Education, or any other relevant field from an *accredited academic institution with minimum of three years of relevant working experience. or;
  • Completed High School Diploma with at least five years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Proven work experience as an instructor required.
  • Must be approachable and empathic so children will be comfortable working with you.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in MHPSS programming resilience, psychosocial support, community-based activities, development, and mobilization, especially in an emergency context.
  • Experience working with at-risk community members.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and stakeholders, working in international organizations, non-government, or government institutions/organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting.

Skills

  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages; Data entry (database management) skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Knowledge of Dari/Farsi/Pashto and Arabic is desirable.
