Medical Oncologist – Based· in Bamako, Mali F/H At Doctors Without Borders


Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened ; mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from care. The French section is present in about thirty countries.

Within the framework of’a specific opening of post on the ground, we are looking for a :

DOCTOR ONCOLOGIST M/F

Main purpose : Participate in the care of care specific medical (curative and/or palliative) patients with cancer on an outpatient basis and in hospitalisation in accordance with appropriate and up-to-date medical knowledge, protocols, values and universal criteria of’ international hygiene in order to improve the’ health status of patients and beneficiaries.

Mission

  • In collaboration with the ONcologists of’hospital, shares and applies its knowledge and medical skills to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with cancers ;
  • Participates in the implementation of’an adapted and clear protocol for the management of patients undergoing chemotherapy by defining the threshold of chemo treatment
  • Enforces and applies these protocols with a view to improving the quality of care and reducing biological risks ;
  • Participates in the updating of the criteria for taking charge of the project and the respect of its criteria
  • Participates in medical meetings and multidisciplinary consultation meetings (CPR)
  • Participates in oncological care in outpatient and hospitalization for patients with breast and cervical cancers. If necessary prescribed the necessary treatments, in accordance with MOH/MSF protocols
  • Participates in the proper coordination of care in the service and on an outpatient basis ;
  • S’ ensure that patient records are complete and that medical recommendations are clearly notified to nursing staff ;
  • If necessary, consult and specific or palliative medical care for cancer patients ;
  • Work closely with all actors and services involved in the management of cancer: imaging, biology, anatomo-pathology, surgery, gynecology, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, physiotherapy, psychology…….
  • Participates in capacity building of Onco project officers on the management of breast and cervical cancer cases
  • Accompany the’ nursing team in the’administration of cytotoxics according to MSF standards
  • S’assures the rational prescription of narcotics and cytotoxics
  • Forms and accompanies the teams of palliative care on the management of palliative patients
  • Regularly inform patients and their families of the disease and the treatment to be followed and check that the explanations have been understood. Ensures respect for the autonomy of the patient and confidentiality of information; at the bedside of the patient, he adopts the’ attitude that suits the patient, caregivers and the rest of the’medical team ;
  • Ensure that professional secrecy is respected and in practice at all levels of the public ;
  • Support the’team in the updating of data and in the definition of key indicators
  • Participates in the preparation of the various project reports (monthly report, capitalization report..) tools and all other supports necessary for the proper functioning of the project ;
  • Contributes to the’data analysis and strategic project proposals
  • Participates in the preparation of the international pharmacy order (cytotoxic, narcotics, etc.)
  • Reports to referring doctors the difficulties encountered

Professional skills

Education

  • Medical degree from a recognized university
  • Specialization in Oncology

Experience

  • A minimum of one year of experience as a doctor in an oncology department
  • Experience in supportive and palliative care

Language: French required

Job specifics

Full support by MSF:

Transportation and housing + perdiem monthly land for current expenses (food and others). Retirement contribution. Full medical care : mutual /vaccines /evacuation if necessary. Insurances.

Status and conditions :

Duration: mission of 8 months minimum.

Salary based on MSF remuneration policy.
