In Syria, WFP provides food assistance to more than 4.6 million people each month. This includes families who require emergency assistance when affected by conflict and displacement and also those who need help to improve their nutrition and food security. WFP supports children across Syria with healthy meals and snacks at school, mothers with nutritious diets, and families and communities with sustainable livelihood projects.


The objective of a country-level Logistics Cluster is to ensure that timely, coherent and effective logistics support to humanitarian aid/relief operations is possible (within funding and security constraints). WFP as lead agency of the Logistics Cluster is accountable for working in partnership with humanitarian stakeholders to deliver a strategic response, based on operational gaps (as per the IASC Guidelines on Cluster Coordination at Country Level).


The position is required to provide a coherent information to Logistics Cluster partners under the whole of Syria.

Supervision received:

Although based in Gaziantep, the position holder is under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer Cluster based in Gaziantep coupled with a reporting line to the Logistics Cluster Coordinator based in Damascus.


Within delegated authority, the Information Management Officer will be for the Whole of Syria approach and responsible for the following duties:

  •  The Information Management Officer will act as the focal point for collecting, analysing and disseminating logistics information, in close coordination with logistics and information personnel of other UN organizations and NGOs involved in the humanitarian response, and national authorities.
  •  Produce Logistics Cluster products/reports in Logistics Cluster product formats or specific formats as required within the operation. Key products include; situation updates, bulletins, snapshots, briefings, situation updates.
  •  Liaise with Logistics Cluster participants, other cluster members, and national counterparts to gather information for the production of daily sitreps and weekly bulletins, ensuring that challenges and concerns relating to the logistics operation are represented.
  •  Support the Logistics Cluster Coordinator in Damascus and Gaziantep as required in drafting donor proposals and reports, by collating key operational information and provide support as required.
  •  Draft, consolidate, and share key logistics information and procedures, such as ConOps and SOPs ensuring they are regularly revised/updated if required. Inform relevant stakeholders on commodity tracking reporting procedures.
  •  Manage content of Logistics Cluster country operations page – in close coordination with Global Logistics Cluster support team in Rome.
  •  Prepare operational overview, briefings and snapshots on the logistics operation for donors, Humanitarian Country Team, Office of the Humanitarian Coordinator and other stakeholders.
  •  Work closely with OCHA to ensure updated logistics information is disseminated to all focal points as necessary. Attend coordination meetings on access constraints and provide updates on logistics bottlenecks to OCHA working groups on a regular basis.
  •  Work with partners in the field, assessing their information requirements and support with training, and guidance on the basic principles of logistics.
  •  Identify the most appropriate methodology to source and map information that can be used for advocacy in addressing issues in the supply chain.
  •  Establish, moderate, and maintain the Logistics Cluster mailing list.
  •  Standardize and execute quality control of logistics assessments and activity reports.
  •  Provide WFP Reports Officer with inputs on Logistics Cluster activities; Liaise regularly with reports officers in other agencies and NGOs.
  •  Establish and maintain internal information sharing mechanisms, documentation formats, assessment formats, central file store, according to GLCSC guidelines and standardization.
  •  Recognize and assess the sensitivity of information obtained; Respect the confidential nature of sources of information where relevant.
  •  Other duties as required

Job Content:

The Information Management Officer will work in the Logistics Cluster Unit in Gaziantep for the whole of Syria.

Functional Capabilities and skills required to deliver outputs:

Able to be a successful team player, show initiative and successfully drive tasks trough;

  •  Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  •  High attention to detail and proofreading ability in English; good research and analytical skills;
  •  Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team;
  •  Good communication skills;
  •  Ability to work independently while asking questions and seeking support in a fast-paced work environment.
  •  Experience in using Social Media in a professional context an advantage.

Technical skills:

  •  Proficient in MS Office package, particularly in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  •  Demonstrated ability in data acquisition and knowledge of Access or other database tools is a great advantage.
  •  Experience with HTML is also a plus.
  •  Demonstrated ability in acquiring, wrangling, structuring, manipulating and visualizing unstructured and structured data with BI platforms like Power BI or Tableau, or other data analytics is a distinct advantage.
  •  Willingness to work in challenging environments/field locations.


Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree equivalent) in logistics, economics, social sciences, international relations, communications, journalism, English language and other relevant field, OR a First university degree (Bachelor’s degree equivalent) in the same disciplines with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training/courses.

Language: Fluency (level C in written and speaking) in English and Turkish.

Experience: With an Advanced University Degree: At least 1 year of responsible post-graduate professional experience in Information Management, Logistics, Communication, Reporting and Journalism. With a First University Degree: At least 3 further years of responsible professional experience in Information Management, Logistics, Communication, Reporting and Journalism. One to two years of professional experience in an international context including: responsibility in information management, communications and/or reporting roles; experience with reporting/tracking systems; working in an emergency situation ideal.
