ITS Vice Presidency Context:

Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) enables the WBG to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a sustainable way by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150 locations.

Our vision is to transform how the Bank Group accomplishes its mission through information and technology. In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, the formulation and implementation of the ITS strategy is an ongoing, iterative process of learning and adaptation developed through extensive consultations with business partners throughout the World Bank Group.

ITS shapes its strategy in response to changing business priorities and leverages new technologies to achieve three high-level business outcomes: business enablement, by providing Bank Group units with innovative digital tools and technologies to transform how they deliver value for their clients; empowerment & effectiveness, by ensuring that all Bank Group staff are connected, able to find information, and productive to accelerate the delivery of development solutions globally; and resilience, by equipping the Bank Group to provide risk-based cybersecurity and robust data protection for a global network and a growing cloud platform.

Implementation of the strategy is guided by three core principles. The first is to deliver solutions for business partners that are customer-centric, innovative, and transformative. The second is to provide the Bank Group with value for money with selective and standard technologies. The third principle is to excel at the basics by providing a high performing, robust, and resilient IT environment for the organization.

Unit Context:

The ITS Information & Knowledge Solutions (ITSKS) is a unit within the ITS Operations & Corporate department (ITSOC) that focuses on making it easier for Bank staff to work with information and knowledge – including through Artificial Intelligence – to deliver the best possible development solutions to clients, while ensuring the Bank can effectively manage its large information base. This includes support for content delivery and management, collaboration, knowledge and learning, and document management solutions.

The Field Intelligence and Productivity Apps team within ITSKS is looking for a talented and energetic team member to build new agile applications and enhance the digital workplace apps using the latest frameworks and cloud-based platforms, AI/ML technologies to achieve desired business outcomes. Primary focus of this role will be to lead the technical development and implementation of innovative solutions for the Field Intelligence and Productivity Apps team, with a focus on performance. The candidate will work in a team with designers, developers, product owners and analysts to design, develop and implement innovative, agile, digital workplace solutions for Bank’s frontline task teams and other staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Develop enterprise-grade UI platform & design system to accelerate the development of applications.
  •  Stay up to date with industry trends in the front-end application development ecosystem and contribute to the enhancements of the platform to improve DX.
  •  Leverage design and architecture best practices to ensure quality solution delivery.
  •  Collaborate with multiple functional and technical teams to build usable products.
  •  Leverage emerging technologies including DevOps, micro-services-based architectures, containers, and other cloud-based technologies to continuously improve the solution.

Selection Criteria

  •  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 2 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  At least 2 years of experience covering the ‘specific job responsibilities’ outlined above.
  •  Hands-on experience developing web applications using Angular, Bootstrap and REST APIs.
  •  Expertise in building applications and products that are cloud native.
  •  Experience integrating with enterprise-grade applications.
  •  Knowledge of emerging technologies including DevOps, micro-services-based architectures, containers, lambda etc.
  •  Experience with Application Performance and EUM tools like AppInsights, Adobe Analytics, SPLUNK etc.
  •  Experience working with distributed and diverse teams to deliver quality products.
  •  Proven ability to work and juggle multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  •  Ability to learn new technologies, self-start with strong analytical and logical capabilities.
  •  Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-cultural environment; excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills in operating collaboratively across organizational boundaries.
  •  Excellent communication and presentation skills.
