Organisational Setting and ReportingThe position is located in the Africa Section of the Communications Campaigns Service in the Campaigns and Country Operations Division, and is for a period of three (3) months with an opportunity for extension for an additional three (3) months depending on the needs of the department. Through its Africa Renewal platforms, the Section is focused on providing solutions-oriented content about Africa, taking advantage of the continent’s evolving digital communications landscape for maximum reach, in line with the UN’s global communications strategy. We also disseminate Africa and UN-related content for publication at no cost to hundreds of media outlets around the world. We provide external communications support to our designated clients, namely the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and collaborate with other UN and external entities to advance a factual, balanced and non-stereotypical narrative of Africa. This internship is UNPAID and is offered to be undertaken remotely and on part-time basis, for a minimum of 4 months. - Identifying, researching, drafting and editing engaging content (text, photos, documents, and multimedia content such as short videos) for Africa Renewal online platforms;
- Maintaining content on Africa Renewal website and other online presences according to established policies;
- Contribute to strategies for more effective audience engagement;
- Assisting in checking the website for broken pages or pages that are inconsistent with the design of the website;
- Proposing new projects for Africa Renewal platforms and identifying opportunities to reach a wider audience;
- Monitoring the website and social media channel usage through the use of various analytical tools;
- Media monitoring, fact-checking and related research work for Africa Renewal stories and other content;
- Maintaining and updating media and subscription mailing lists for the Section and assisting in distributing various information products;
- Performing additional tasks that may be assigned by the Chief of the Section from time to time.

EducationTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: -As per the provisions of ST/AI/2020/1, applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a)Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b)Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). -Be computer literate in standard software applications; -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
