About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), you will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the efficient and effective management of all support services for MAG’s activities in Somalia, including Finance, Logistics, Human Resources, IT, Facilities Management and Administration. You will focus on overseeing management systems, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of support service functions, ensuring the programme’s operation is compliant with donor requirements and with MAG’s internal policies and procedures, and providing support to the Senior Management Team in country (SMT) in risk management.

About you:

You will have international senior management experience, preferably with a humanitarian agency in a developing country. You will have a professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) or the equivalent professional finance management experience. You will need to have demonstrable experience of overseeing complex financial planning, monitoring, forecasting and reporting activities and of developing new business proposals and budgets. Additionally, you will have developed and overseen finance, logistics, HR and administrative management systems.

You will be sensitive to cultural differences, able to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts and have the willingness and ability to work both at strategic and operational levels, with hand-on approach when required.

About the Somalia programme:

MAG has had a sustained presence in Somalia since 2008. The MAG Somalia programme is operating in a complex political and security environment with operations firmly established in Somaliland and with the potential to expand back into Puntland and South and Central Somalia. The main focus of MAG’s operations in Somaliland are Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) activities; which aim to improve community safety through improved weapons and ammunition management practices and knowledge.
