Be a Go Digital ASEAN Mentor!

The Go Digital ASEAN Program is a training program designed to equip MSMEs with critical digital skills to grow their businesses in the digital economy. The project is looking for mentors who can facilitate the training program and engage novice entrepreneurs in formal (structured) and informal (conversational) learning sessions. Terms:

This is a part-time position to start as early as January 2024. The Go Digital ASEAN – Philippines team will support mentors as they undergo a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop to help them better understand the learning experience, and hone their facilitation and teaching skills. Mentors will also be furnished with class program materials.

Mentors

The Go Digital ASEAN (GDA) project is a training program designed to equip MSMEs and the emerging workforce with critical digital skills to grow their businesses in the digital economy. The program is implemented by The Asia Foundation with support from Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm.

Now in its second phase, the program is a continuation of the successful first phase of the program. It intends to provide more advanced and fit-for-purpose training for up to 200,000 underserved MSMEs from across the region on skills such as business and financial literacy, digital marketing, and cyber security. The project offers both in-person (where possible) and virtual training for developing communities across a variety of skills needed to succeed in today’s digital economy.

Mentors are individuals with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, who know how to safely and purposefully use relevant digital tools for business, finance, and communications in their work. They are also willing and able to engage novice entrepreneurs through formal (structured sessions) and informal (conversations) learning sessions. Remote workers are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Primary Work

Pre-Program:

  • Mentors will undergo a full Training of Trainers and an onboarding process.
  • Work closely with the Go Digital ASEAN Team and Master Trainers to continually refine online facilitation and training skills as well as mastery of the program’s content and intended delivery guidelines and method;
  • Support learner and resource mobilization to organize in-person or virtual training sessions with target audiences;

Program Implementation

  • Conduct Go Digital ASEAN – Philippines digital skills training in compliance with the intended program tools, materials, and design;
  • Build on the existing toolkits and slides to customize the learning experience and effectively mentor the learners;
  • Discuss and engage with participants to effectively deliver the core skills, competencies, and digital tools as covered by the respective modules under the program;
  • Ensure compliance with M&E tools and requirements in assessing the reach and impact of the program that include, but are not limited to, use of the pre and post training questionnaire and trainer accountability form;
  • Manage classes and participants in compliance with Foundation M&E requirements, data privacy, preventing sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH), and child protection policies;
  • Attend regular meetings and follow up or refresher trainings as necessary;

Post-Implementation

  • Support the consolidation of best practices and lessons learned to help refine and improve the program, its content, strategies, approaches, or other related aspects;
  • Provide support to Master Trainers and/or other Senior Trainers in the conduct debrief sessions when necessary;
  • Help amplify and broaden the program’s efforts to reach trainees, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders by broadening the reach of the program’s campaign and information materials;
  • Participate and provide assistance in the execution of other special events or related activities, such as, but not limited to, launches, online events, etc.;

Key Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge

  • Business aptitude: Knowledgeable in business and financial planning, as well as client interaction and customer service. Entrepreneurial experience is an advantage.
  • Technology tools: Proficient in the use of common financial technology tools such as Maya, GCash, Shopee Pay, Taxumo, and other B2B tools. Basic knowledge of accounting tools such as Quickbooks, and CRM tools such as Zoho, Zendesk, and Hubspot is an advantage.
  • Context of MSMEs – mentors should have a basic understanding of the situation of MSMEs in the Philippines. Experience in the local or Philippine business landscape is an advantage.
  • Session Facilitation – holding the space for learners to engage in learning experiences. Knowledge in session or experience design is an advantage.
  • Logistics Coordination – coordinate learner participation and relevant resources in coordination with the team for the smooth conduct of in-person or virtual training sessions.

Character

  • Positive but nuanced views of technology – mentors must be open to integrating digital technology into their entrepreneurial practices while remaining vigilant of its dangers.
  • Adaptability and flexibility – open to tweaking the learning experience to add and remove topics or activities that are not aligned with the particular cohort’s intentions
  • Growth mindset – Willing to learn digital entrepreneurial tools (e.g. Zoho, Quicbooks, CRM solutions, etc.) ; open to giving and receiving both praise and criticism on performance
  • Prototyping mindset – Willing to make drafts and test ideas to get early feedback
  • Solutions-oriented – Resilient, willing to explore unconventional solutions to solve problems.
