Gender Justice and Climate Solutions in Asia: Stop Motion Consultancy

A. BACKGROUND

Oxfam is a global movement of people, working together to end the injustice of poverty. That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor. Together, we save, protect and rebuild lives when disaster strikes. We help people build better lives for themselves, and for others. We take on issues like land rights, climate change and discrimination against women. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty.

In our pursuit of a just and an equal world, we began researching and addressing the intersectionality of barriers that hinder women’s growth and one prominent theme that has emerged is the nexus between climate and gender. While this issue presents acute challenges for everyone, studies have shown that women are more likely to experience greater negative impact in the aftermath of climate-related issues.[1] From assuming caregiving responsibilities for their families to enduring harassment during relocation, the list of these issues is exhaustive, making it almost impossible for women to rebuild a new life. The effects are not limited to their socio-economic life of women but is deeply affecting their emotional and mental wellbeing.

Despite these challenges, we continue our efforts as we see a future Asia where women and girls are not only leaders but also champions of climate resilience and gender equality. In this world, women actively participate in and influence climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, contributing to innovative solutions and driving sustainable practices. We aspire to break down systemic barriers that limit women’s access to resources and opportunities, fostering a society where climate initiatives prioritize gender inclusivity. This vision embraces an Asia where women and girls are not just beneficiaries but active agents in shaping policies, from local to global levels, ensuring that their perspectives and needs are integrated into every facet of climate and gender justice.

To better represent the facts, Oxfam is seeking a skilled and experienced consultant to create impactful stop motion graphics focused on the intersection of gender and climate. We are looking for a creative professional who can effectively express the life story of these women – challenges and opportunities related to these critical issues.

By visually representing our vision, we can inspire and mobilize people to stand with us in our pursuit of gender justice, climate justice and equality in Asia. The primary target audience for the artworks will be women, young feminists, activists and social media users, while our secondary audience will be policymakers across Asia.
