organizational framework
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Guatemala signed the Country Programming Framework (MPP) 2022-2025, which defines the national priorities that FAO will address through actions at the country level within the scope of their respective strategic frameworks. These priorities are intended to guarantee the comparative advantages of FAO to contribute to the achievement of the goals established in State policy instruments such as the K’atún Nuestra Guatemala National Development Plan 2032 (CONADUR-SEGEPLAN, 2014), the National Priorities Development (SEGEPLAN, 2016), the General Government Policy 2020-2024, as well as the United Nations Cooperation Framework for the Sustainable Development of Guatemala and the 2030 Agenda. The Guatemala MPP establishes three governmental priority areas that FAO will address, these are: 1) More productive, prosperous and inclusive territories for a better life, 2) Food security and better nutrition, and 3) Resilience and better environment. The results contemplated in these three programmatic areas will be achieved through the development of the normative instruments of the Organization and the projects implemented by FAO, together with its partners, in the country.
El proyecto “Medios de vida resilientes de pequeños agricultores vulnerables en los paisajes mayas y el Corredor Seco de Guatemala” -RELIVE- implementado junto a las instituciones del Gobierno de Guatemala, como lo son: MARN, MAGA, INAB e INSIVUMEH, cuenta con el financiamiento del Fondo Verde del Clima y el co-financiamiento de la Agencia de Cooperación Internacional de Corea (KOICA). Dicho proyecto fortalecerá los medios de vida de ciento quince mil pequeños productores de 29 municipios de Petén, Chiquimula, Zacapa, Alta y Baja Verapaz, y evitará la emisión de 1 millón de toneladas de CO2 en los próximos siete años, equivalente al 8% de la meta que Guatemala ha comprometido ante la Convención de Cambio Climático para 2030. El proyecto RELIVE es parte de las áreas de trabajo del MPP 2022 – 2025, específicamente del Área 3 “Resiliencia y mejor medioambiente”, que aborda la gestión sostenible de los recursos naturales que ayude a mejorar la gestión integral de los riesgos climáticos y ambientales, y la adaptación al cambio climático de los grupos de población más vulnerables.
El proyecto se implementará y generará tres resultados clave: – Los sistemas de producción críticos son resilientes al clima y los agricultores han mejorado, asegurado los alimentos y adaptado sus medios de vida; – Los recursos hídricos a nivel de las microcuencas se manejan de manera sostenible y se restauran los paisajes para garantizar un suministro estable de agua para la agricultura a mitad de condiciones de sequía inducida por el cambio climático. – Las instituciones locales y nacionales adoptan mecanismos de gobernanza y tienen una fuerte capacidad para aplicar medidas de adaptación al cambio climático
Dependencia jerárquica
El/la especialista estará bajo la supervisión directa del Coordinador Nacional del Proyecto con la orientación y supervisión general del Representante Asistente (Programa).
Campo de especialización
E/la especialista deberá tener conocimiento y experiencia en la implementación de buenas prácticas agrícolas de adaptación al cambio climático, especialmente en la producción de granos básicos (maíz y frijol), con la finalidad de garantizar la seguridad alimentaria de las familias de los productores de infra subsistencia y subsistencia del área de acción del Proyecto. Por otro lado, será importante que el mismo tenga la experiencia en el manejo de otros cultivos como el café y cacao, los cuales necesitaran de la mejor asistencia técnica estratégica para que puedan producir lo suficiente y puedan vincularse a distintos mercados.
Tareas y responsabilidades
– Operar las acciones de planificación, asistencia técnica y seguimiento de los productos del proyecto en prácticas agrícolas en cultivos de infra subsistencia, subsistencia y excedentarios para promover la resiliencia climática. – Asesorar y supervisar la implementación de prácticas agrícolas de infra subsistencia y subsistencia resilientes al clima. – Brindar capacitación y asistencia técnica en prácticas de manejo en cultivos de subsistencia y excedentarios para promover la resiliencia al cambio climático. – Monitorear el cumplimiento de los productos y resultados del Proyecto en cuanto a prácticas en cultivos de subsistencia y de los que generan cadenas de valor como cacao y café. – Elaborar informes técnicos sobre el efecto de las prácticas de adaptación fomentadas por el Proyecto. – Realizar informes técnicos mensuales, semestrales y anuales vinculados a las acciones de agricultura y adaptación al cambio climático del Proyecto y su efecto. – Participar en levantamiento y/o supervisión de información de indicadores de desempeño en materia de agricultura. – Realizar otras tareas relacionadas según se requiera
CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Minimum requirements
– Professional with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences or a career to the end, preferably with postgraduate studies in Rural Development, Agricultural Economics or other related ones. – Five years of relevant experience working on issues related to climate resilient agriculture. – Five years of relevant experience in agricultural practices for adaptation to climate change. – Guatemalan nationality. – Practical knowledge of the Spanish language.

Selection criteria
– Experience in climate resilient agriculture, agricultural practices for adaptation to climate change, coffee and/or cocoa crops. – Work experience in the United Nations System – Knowledge of Human Rights, rights of indigenous peoples, women and youth – Experience in incorporating the gender, youth and Indigenous Peoples approach
