The Norwegian Refugee Council ( NRC ) is an International Non-Governmental Organization based in Oslo, Norway that works in more than 40 countries offering humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable population. NRC has been responding to the growing internal and external displacement in Central America and Mexico since 2015, focusing on the protection crisis and integrating legal assistance, education, accommodation and infrastructure interventions, water and sanitation, and livelihoods.
NRC is an organization with a high international reputation for humanitarian assistance and has been working in Latin America for more than 30 years leading humanitarian action in many of the countries where it operates.
In Mexico, NRC has been collaborating with local partners since 2019 and is currently expanding its scope, initiating activities through direct implementation in the States of Veracruz, Coahuila and Mexico City, with more than 20 collaborators hired by NRC in Mexico, assisting displaced people in the intervention areas in the country.
one. Objective
The purpose of the charge is to be responsible for driving the assigned vehicle to transport NRC personnel, visitors, documents, and materials to designated destinations when they are officially approved, ensuring the safety and protection of the organization’s people and property.
2. Main responsibilities
Driving
- Drive the vehicle assigned for the transfer of NRC personnel, visitors, documents and materials to destinations designated by the fleet supervisor or administrator.
- Accompany NRC missions in cities where NRC projects are implemented.
Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance Assigned
- Support the registration of vehicle maintenance in accordance with the guidelines of the logistics formats and the Fleet administrator.
- Keep in permanent operation and report failures in the ICT team at your expense or on loan.
- Be responsible for the vehicle that will be assigned to you within the transfer of assets at your expense. Evidence through the formats of the Logistics Manual, deliveries, revisions, failures, etc., and keep a record of fuel loads and maintenance.
- Keep vehicle inventory and designated communication tools and equipment updated
- Respond for the loading and unloading of the materials it carries, in order to avoid any damage or deterioration of the materials, as well as of the vehicles.
Security
- Maintain fluid communication with the safety area of your movements according to HSS requirements.
- Act according to the NRC’s logistics and safety guidelines regarding the handling of situations such as accidents, breakdowns or security incidents.
- Keep your training updated in the NRC Safety Standards and in those that you require to carry out your work, in the same way, meet the security requirements of the Staff designated by the NRC accordingly.
- Coordinate and carry out logistics activities in the organization of missions and make security reports during travel.
Administrative responsibilities
- Keep the route log book (bitch) and fuel of the assigned vehicle and send the report with the respective supports to the Fleet Administrator no later than 30 of each month.
- Issue reports of the vehicle fleet.
- Carry out document messaging and procedures, including other procedures with suppliers and payment of supplies, when required in your office.
Others
- The other tasks assigned by the supervisor in fulfilling the objectives of the position.
3. Professional Competences
Indispensable:
- Full Middle Education Title or Mechanical Academic Training
- Current Driving License
- Minimum three (3) years of proven experience in a similar responsibility.
- Work experience as a driver in humanitarian aid contexts.
- Proven knowledge about current traffic and transport rules and regulations.
- Ability to learn about security standards and protocols.
- Ability to drive ATVs (4x4s) in mountainous regions.
- Knowledge of the context in the geographical area of work.
- Previous work experience in complex and changing contexts.
Desirable:
- Have some experience in carrying out logistical and administrative procedures
- Basic knowledge of mechanics or vehicle maintenance. (
- Knowledge in the handling of office utilities MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Ability to learn about security standards and protocols.
