Director of Global Communications At Health Care Without Harm


The director of global communications will strategically lead HCWH’s international communication efforts. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy for HCWH’s global program portfolio, aligning messaging across regional entities, and managing the international communications department.

Requirements

  • Strategic Leadership and Global Coordination: Lead HCWH’s overall global strategic communications and coordination across the global network, partnering with communications teams across the HCWH global network and working to align Global and U.S. efforts to strengthen the collective impact and ensure cohesive messaging and branding strategies.
  • Advocacy, Campaigns, and Content Management: Spearhead the communication strategy of global advocacy initiatives and oversee the development and distribution of content for HCWH’s networks and programs, ensuring broad reach and engagement.
  • Team Management and Development: Build and lead a diverse, dynamic international communications team. Foster collaboration, integration, and adaptability to meet evolving organizational needs.
  • Digital Engagement and Media Relations: Craft and execute digital strategies, manage HCWH’s online presence, and implement comprehensive media plans to enhance public engagement and visibility.
  • Resource Optimization, Budget Management, and Performance Evaluation: Efficiently manage the communications budget and resources, ensuring optimal use. Lead monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities for assessing communication effectiveness and impact.
  • Quality Assurance and US Integration: Uphold high-quality communication standards aligned with HCWH’s mission. Collaborate closely with the U.S. Communications Director to achieve strategic integration of communication efforts.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in communications, journalism, or public relations are highly valued.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years in strategic communication roles, with a strong preference for experience in nonprofit advocacy, particularly related to climate, health, and sustainability.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of communications strategies within the context of nonprofit advocacy. Experience in climate and health communications is highly desirable.
  • Multicultural Experience: Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural settings, with experience in global or international communications being a significant advantage.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English is essential. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred, given the global nature of HCWH’s work and its engagement in Spanish-speaking regions.
  • Virtual Work Proficiency: Comfort and experience working in virtual or remote environments, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively across different time zones and digital platforms.

  • Advocacy Skills: Ability to advocate persuasively and effectively across a variety of platforms and in diverse settings.
  • Design and Visual Communication: A keen sense for graphic design and the ability to communicate visually.
  • Creative and Strategic Thinking: A blend of creative and strategic thought processes, underpinned by efficient time management and strong organizational abilities.
