Country Director, Sierra Leone At World Hope International

Job Purpose:

WHI is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Country Director to lead its operations in Sierra Leone. The Country Director will play a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic direction and successful implementation of WHI’s programs in Sierra Leone. They will provide leadership to a team of dedicated staff of 200, manage relationships with key stakeholders, and ensure that WHI’s programs are aligned with the organization’s mission and values. In Sierra Leone, WHI implements programs in water, health, and protection, focusing on empowering vulnerable children, families, and communities.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of WHI’s programs in Sierra Leone, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Provide day to day leadership, managerial direction, financial oversight, and administrative support for the work of WHI-SRL’s programs and leadership team.
  • Manage a team of national and international staff, providing coaching, mentoring, performance management, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure consistent and timely program and financial reporting to WHI.
  • Oversee the successful participation of all WHI volunteers in the work of WHI-SRL.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, donors, implementing partners, and community leaders.
  • Manage and develop the relationships with WHI-SRL partner organizations, including The Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone, other local churches, community and faith-based organizations, NGOs and the government of Sierra Leone.
  • Collaborate with the WHI Business Development, Strategic Engagement, and Church Engagement teams to raise funds for projects that will enhance WHI’s mission and vision and prepare accurate reports as needed.
  • Represent WHI at national and international events and forums.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and WHI policies and procedures.
  • Manage WHI’s resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for WHI in Sierra Leone.

Minimum Education / Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant humanitarian and development INGO experience required with progressive management experience.
  • Master’s degree in international development, public health, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of water, health, and protection issues in Sierra Leone.
  • Proven track record of success in managing and implementing complex development programs.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast pace, complex, decentralized, and geographically diverse organizational culture.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other relevant language, such as French or Krio.
  • Strong communications skills, oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working on a multicultural team.
  • Proficient computer skills – especially the Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Flexibility to travel.

Working Environment / Conditions:

Standard office environment. Domestic and international travel required (25%).

Benefits include paid national holidays, sick leave, paid vacation, parental leave, and medical benefits.

Salary: $60,000 – $90,000
