Country Director – RCA At Water for Good


Responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of Water for Good operations in the assigned national office, including program direction, national strategy development, and, the quality, innovation and impact of the program, emergency preparedness and response, human resource management and talent development, financial and asset management of the organization, and, resource acquisition, stakeholder representation and administrative operations.

The country director is expected to demonstrate progress in achieving the measures of the operational objectives. He/she plays a leading role in the management of the programme and operations in the Central African Republic and continuously evolves them to make them more relevant, relevant and, more efficient and innovative. He/it will operate as the highest representative of Water for Good in the country and is responsible for ensuring that its profile and reputation with stakeholders is strong and reflective organizational values, operating principles and the Mission. The country director is the interlocutor who makes the link between global priorities and specific national plans.He/she must work in close consultation and coordination with regional and global teams to carry out the tasks/responsibilities related to his position.

Responsibilities and Tasks Overview :

  • Ensure that the organization is recognized by stakeholders (relevant government authorities, donors, other NGOs, media, etc.) as a development actor, and, a credible point of reference and a leader on issues related to sustainable water.
  • Leading the development and implementation of quality national strategic and operational plans, adapted to the local context and reflecting global priorities.
  • Oversee the recruitment, orientation and performance of senior management personnel and the development of middle management personnel; demonstrate sound commitment, strong senior management teams, and, a culture of innovation and effective talent management.
  • Strengthen the financial sustainability of programs and operations through an aggressive resource development effort, sound financial ratios and effective budget administration.
  • Oversee in-country grant acquisition and management efforts ensuring the long-term health of the portfolio and achievement of annual targets.
  • Lead program quality in the country, ensuring quality execution of the program strategy that integrates child protection, timely and quality completion of monitoring and evaluation processes , adoption of quality standards and guidelines and effective use of global and regional program resources.
  • Build Water for Good’s reputation and brand with governments and other stakeholders to pre-position, advocate, network and raise the profile and reputation of key influencers to advance the water for good agenda sustainable water.
  • Ensure the proper use of Water for Good’s financial, human and physical resources in pursuit of quality programs for sustainable water, and ensure that adequate internal controls are in place to protect Water for Good’s financial and non-monetary assets for Good and are used in accordance with the organization’s policies/procedures and donor terms and conditions.
  • Oversee the development and lead the execution of an effective disaster risk management strategy and plans in the country.
  • Interact with and maintain relationships with key donors and volunteers when they visit the country.

Professional experience and qualifications:

Qualifications required:

  • 6 years of experience in a senior management position in the field of international development; experience as a country director, head of mission or equivalent experience is strongly appreciated.
  • Experience in responding to natural disasters and man-made emergencies
  • Experience managing programs supported by large institutional grants desired
  • You have demonstrated strong skills in managing complex programs and large numbers of employees.
  • Experience in WaSH programming.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French
  • Demonstration of high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including the ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally, while being sensitive to cultural, ethnic, social and political issues.
  • Ability to solve problems pragmatically, plan a course of action using analytical, conceptual, strategic and forward thinking skills to achieve an effective resolution.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in areas such as project, budget and resource management.
  • Strong leadership skills in areas such as promoting teamwork, developing and motivating others, managing change, conflict resolution, initiative and flexibility.
  • You have a strong vision, strategic planning, implementation and effectiveness under pressure, you are results-oriented and proactive and you have the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to support innovation and organizational changes necessary to improve organizational effectiveness; help others successfully manage organizational change.

Training/Certification :

Bachelor’s degree in a related field of development/social sciences, organization management, leadership, logistics, strategic planning or other related disciplines. An additional qualification in resource mobilization would be a plus. A master is preferable.

Desired qualification: The mastery of the sango is an asset.
