The Education and Cooperation Foundation (Educo), member of the ChildFund Alliance, is a global NGO for development cooperation that works for children and for the defense of their rights, especially the right to quality education and protection. Present in Benin since 2014, Educo is currently operating throughout the territory; it has its main office in Cotonou, and branches in Sinendé and Bembèrèkè in the Borgou department, in Natitingou in the Atacora department and in Malanville in the Alibori department.

With a workforce of nearly 120 employees in the country, Educo is carrying out actions in the fields of education, health, promotion of rights and child protection, community livelihoods, Food Security, Wash, national systems building, Political Dialogue, capacity building.

Country Director Benin- (H/F)

Number of positions : 01

Location’affection : Cotonou

Nature and duration of the contract : CDD of twelve (12) months including three months of’essay period; with possibility of renewal and to conclude a CDI in case of satisfaction ;
Hierarchy : Management Committee ;

Taking of service : As early as possible in April 2024 ;

Working condition :

  • A gross monthly compensation covering housing between 2 800 000 and 3 280 000FCFA depending on the’experience ;
  • A health insurance cover covering 80% for the’employee (e), his spouse and minor children for the premises ;
  • Training : Unlimited and free access to the in-house’e-learning platform ;
  • Other non-exhaustive benefits accompany the position according to country constraints ;
  • An international mobility policy for expatriates.
  1. Mission. Leading global’action and driving Educo’s strategy in Benin and continuing the work of’extensions in the Gulf of Guinea countries.
  2. Essential tasks
  3. He/she represents Educo (including legally) and promotes the entirety of his mandate in Benin;
  4. He/she guarantees the implementation of the Multi-annual Strategy, the Annual Operational Plan (OAP) of the Country in compliance with the Strategic Planning and internal processes (budget management, budget management, HR and logistics management, quality and accountability) ;
  5. He/it coordinates in collaboration with the’ programmes the development of country projects and is responsible for the good management of projects (emergencies and development) in relation to the requirements of donors and the strategy of the Foundation ;
  6. He/she is responsible for planning the activities /projects in collaboration with the program staff, and, aligning resources (human and financial) and schedules to achieve the objectives of the programme in the best possible way ;
  7. He/she is responsible for improving the program management approaches that are consistent with best practices and new learnings in order to strengthen the quality and build Educo’s capacity to deliver innovative and innovative solutions results ;
  8. He/she develops synergies and partnerships with other international and national actors present according to the operational and strategic priorities of Educo ;
  9. He/she is responsible for the mobilization of funds and negotiations with donors and partners present in the’ intervention area ;
  10. He/she is responsible for the sound financial management, budget monitoring, monitoring and reporting of Educo in Benin.
  11. He/she ensures a good flow of operational’information within the delegation, with the region and with the headquarters, and ensures good communication, visibility of projects and the foundation.
  12. He/she ensures the good reputation of the Foundation in the country and is responsible for the’ application of institutional rules and policies
  13. He/she provides the’ coaching and management of employees/girls under his responsibility, from recruitment to’ until the end of collaborative relationships, and ensures the good practices of’a management respectful of the values of Educo
  14. He/she ensures the implementation of’a high-performance security framework, known and respected by the staff.
  15. Skills & experiences

The/the candidate must have :

  1. Essentials
  • Relevant university degree in development and or Humanitarian (BAC + 5 minimum), especially in social sciences (Education, Protection, Rights), Project management/Programmes, management, etc, business Administration or any equivalent Diploma in connection with the fields of’intervention of’Educo ;
  • Proven experience (at least 10 years) of performing leadership functions with increasing responsibility in an international environment related to development and humanitarian action in Africa; particularly in the’Education and/or Protection, law of childhood’ ;
  • Excellent knowledge of issues related to childhood’, development and emerging universal themes (SDGs..) ;
  • Experience in the coordination of Strategic Programs or in the management of regional/multi country projects ;
  • Knowledge of donor compliance and financial management requirements
  • Strong technical capabilities in communication and representation ;
  • Knowledge of national and regional policies related to the fields of intervention of Educo’ ;
  • Consortium development and management experience ;
  • Excellent knowledge of institutional donors (UN Agencies (UNICEF, WFP, UNHCR, EU & ECHO) ; Bilateral (USAID – BHA, AECID, AFD, Lux Dev, JICA, KOIKA) ; Foundation (BMG, etc.) ;
  • Fluent French proficiency and work facilities in English.

  2. Experience in a similar position, preferably within’Organisations Internationales ;
  • Knowledge of Educo, its programs or experiences of collaboration with Educo would be an asset
  • Experience working in the countries of’intervention of’Educo Africa (Benin, Burkina, Mali, Niger or Senegal) ;
  • Experience in West Africa’ – Golf of Guinea desired ;
  • Experience growing security context ;
  • Good knowledge of Benin ;
